Finepix s9500

Hi i have a finepix s9500m digital camera and lately all the photos i take of my kids seem to be just a little blurry but the background in perfect, very crisp. i have only had this camera a short time and can not find the manual. these photos are taken inside but even outside photos the camera seems to focus on the background rather than the people in the foreground. so lighting doesnt seem to be the issue. i have no idea what the camera is meant to be set on to take beautiful portraits and am getting very frustrated. as i am generally taking photos of the kids, so the setting needs to be for fast no mucking around snaps as obviously the kids are not going to sit still for too long.
