If the information you have to be printed is colour, you'll not be able to print black.

If you're using a copier that has four ink or toner cartridges, once the supply of any given one has become completely empty, the sensors for the unit will keep it from operating.

This is in part because the unit uses all four colors in order to calibrate color balance and position of parts that process the colors.
