If you can open your desktop..try to replace the ide cable of the DVD/Cdrom it might be deffective.before you open your pc just make sure that the power is off.after changing the ide cable of your dvd the system will automatically detect your drive.if you got same problem again try to consult your hardware vendor to claim your warranty parts and service.good luck

Unable to write on DVD-R using DVD/CD-ROM

Yes, if you have a DVD writer installed, you should be able to write to DVDs. What happens when you try? If you look at the DVD writer in the Device Manager, does it have any sort of error or warning? Do you have the correct driver installed for the DVD writer?

My dvd writer was working perfectly but when i format my wondow now it is playing only cds & when i insert a dvd it is not giving any response & my driver is also showing as cd-rom

When you formated you erased the driver you need to use your dvd writer as a dvd writer and player. If your dvd-rom came with a cd use it to reinstall the driver and program it uses. Otherwise you can search for your driver thru the manufacturer website or go to www.driversguide.com and find it there.

New dvd writer recognised as old

Hello.

Go to Control Panel.

Locate System.

Locate your Device Manager.

Under your DVD/CD Rom devices, locate the old DVD writer. Select it. Right click and hit Uninstall.

Now scan your computer for new hardware, and install the new DVD writer with the discs it comes with, if any.

Problem burning DVDs

This happened to me also. I fixed the problem by buying new DVD discs, sometimes the mac's rom doesnt like particular discs. Its a trial and error thing with which ones it will use. Make sure you are using the latest version of Roxio toast to burn with, also make sure your ROM is DVD-R.

If all this fails, it could be your writer in the rom. Try burning a CD, if that works it will be the above problems.

Try using discs with a GOLD BOTTOM, it seemed to work for me.
