Question about Mitsubishi WT-42315 42" TV

1 Answer

Mitsubishi WT-42313 The television has work perfectly since new, but today it shut off and I can not get it to turn on. When I turn the power on, it starts for about five seconds and then turns off. I've unplugged it and let it cool down, but no change. Do you have any ideas?

Hi Terryfic, my Mitsubishi WT-42315 42" TV I bought from Bestbuy 2003 had similar problem. Its warranty expired last year :( I turned on, it stays on for 3 sec, then turned off right away. I pushed the Input and Menu at the same time, as suggested by some, to display the problem code. The screen stayed dark.

Do you think I have the same problem as Vetter?
Do you think replacing/repair DM module would help? Can I do it myself? Where can I purchase the DM module?

Thank you very much in advance.

Same thing, click on...clicks itself off in a few seconds. I replaced the StK394-250s because of issue with color. The turning itself off began before changing the ics. I don' t see a particular dm module to replace, although I see other ics near the power entry. I don't see bulging capacitors. Please help!

I have exactly the same problem, bought this set in 2004 Jan.
Has anyone really tried to replace the DM Module? Do I need to ask service center or I can do it by myself if I have little knowledge about TV repair.

    Thanks a lot,

One more piece of information. Few weeks before this problem occurred, when I press a channel # (202, for example) on my remote to change channel, the TV just sounded "bong", "bong" (2 times if I am not mistaken). After that, it didn't change the channel, I recall. Before, if the channel is not available or not purchased, TV still switched to that channel and showed a message that the channel was not purchased. That shows the TV still got the signal from my Direct TV HD receiver box. I was, however, able to change channel using the +/- on the remote.

This is an indication that you have a problem on the power supply section or on the load because of the following reasons :

1. Over Voltage - the regulator might be cycling on over voltage due to lack of load.

2. Over Current Protection - excessive load or faulty power supply cycling will

trigger the over current protection circuit.

3. Leaky Capacitor - a dried up main filter capacitor or other filter capacitor in the low voltage power supply that is producing an out-of-regulation condition until it warms up. A bad filter capacitor on the output of a series regulator may result in excessive voltage and subsequent shutdown.

4. A problem with the microcontroller, relay or its driver, or standby power supply.

This is not DIY and quite technical so I

Mitsubishi WT-42313 TV

I found the schematic (downloadable PDF) for $7.99 at Cheapest I found and highly recommended.
The blown fuse was due to a fried convergence IC. There are two of these on the high voltage board; they should be replaced together as a matched set. The bad one had gotten so hot I only had to unsolder three pins -- the rest were already loose!
I found the ICs at, also highly recommended. The correct part for the WT-42313 is STK394-250. Make sure you order a pair and they will send you a matched set.
My set is now operating; I just need to clean the optics and do a convergence alignment.
