Question about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

I have the above US TV and I now live in Australia where the signal is braodcast in PAL format. I understand that the TV is an NTSC format, is there a box I can buy to convert the HD signal from my set top box to NTSC so I can view a descent picture? Would a DVDO upscaler or similar help? Also when I watch DVD's through my DVD player there is noticable judder in certain animated scenes like LOTR for example. Any ideas on how to overcome this?

I have a RCA D52W20 rear projection HDTV. This TV was purchased in2005. I cancelled my cable and I just hooked up a digital antenna but the TV isn't finding any channels. What do I need to do? I was...

HDTV indicates the number of lines that are shown by the TV. (HD means that at least 720 lines can be displayed in a given picture.) To receive OTA signals, you need an ATSC tuner (digital) of sufficient power (with a clear path to the transmitter) these days. The RCA D52W20 was released in 2002 and only has an NTSC (analog tuner). You will need a digital-to-analog converter to receive OTA TV (unless any low power analog stations remain in your area).

Please note that the basic digital-to-analog converters that were available with the government coupon back in 2009 were SD (480i lines of pixels used) units. HD d-t-a converters exist but are more expensive.

I hope this helps.

(the phrase "digital antenna" is meaningless; check with or for the direction of local transmitters. will give more information on the type of antenna (indoor, outdoor, amplifier) that you will need to receive channels in your area. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna but is very conservative in the stations that it will indicate that you can receive. Antennas are given a color rating based on how far away the transmitter can be to get a watchable signal. Since digital signals are either enough for the tuner to interpret or you get a "no signal" message, you often need a stronger signal than was needed to receive a watchable analog channel.)

I have a D52W20. I bought a HDMI cord thinking it was what I need, what is it that I DO need for HD?

To correctly get HD, you need to satisfy three things.

First you need an HD tv.

Second you need an HD signal. IE.. HD cable box, Blu Ray etc..

Last, you need either HDMI wires or Components wires.

Hook the HD box up to the TV with component wires(I believe you tv doesn't have hdmi connections), go to the correct input and enjoy.

It seems to me that you are watchin an analog signal on a digital HD TV, the analog signal is has a standard resolution of 720x576 for NTSC (American Signal) and 720x480 for PAL (European Signal).

It could be worth to go contact your cable company, they can hook you up with a digital receiver which gives a better signal and might even have a HD Signal (this means it has a HD-Ready 1280x720 of Full HD 1920x1080 resolution).

If you really want to use your LCD TV on his max this is really worth considering
