Panasonic DMR-EH50 Keeps self-checking. Will not eject disk.
Keeps self-checking. Will not eject disk. Machine won't do anything but this cycle of ''hello, self checking, bye''. Then display says U99. I've tried everything suggested in manual to rectify.

I have had a Panasonic DMR-E85 with this exact same problem you are
describing. As I bought a Freeview Dual-tuner PVR I just bought a
second-hand DMR-E55 as I liked the Panasonic interface. Two months down
the line it is now exhibiting the exact same problems, except now as
well as the continual self-check rebooting, it's also refusing to eject
the disk. Booo. Time for me to buy a new DVD recorder again, and this
time certainly not Panasonic... :(

Make sure remote is set to unit code ex: press enter and 1 at same time see if this matches try enter and 2 or enter and 3 see if this matches and works
While the unit is switched off, Jim, press and hold the STOP and Channel Up buttons (BLACK SQUARE and CH/\) on the unit (NOT the remote) for 5-10 seconds and your disk should eject.
If self check keeps going after 1 minute unplug machine and open top cover remove 4 screws that hold the recorder top cover remove disk reinsert screws and plug in see what happens.
Most of the time a small scratch or fingerprint on recorded disk cause these units to lock up
Don't know if this will work for you, but I unplugged the player then plugged it back in again whlie holding down the power button. The player did not power up until I released the power button and pressed it again. That did it.
