Water and Ice despensor stopped working last night.
No lights are on the control panel. I have made sure that the door is closing correctly and I recycled the power to the refridge to see if it would reset. No success.
Re: Water and Ice despensor stopped working last night.
You have a little control valve in the right lower back of your ref.It should be at the bottom. If it is bad you will not get water to your ice maker. If that is not it your ice maker is bad They are not that hard to replace.Cost for little control in back is about$30.Ice maker is about $90.

http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_1.asp There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem
The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.
my kenmore did the same thing, It had a duel water solenoid on it and one that let water into the door water dispenser went bad. also my ice cube started to get smaller, the rubber in the other side of the water solenoid was dry rotting and eventually ruined the ice maker. I replaced the duel solenoid and ice maker and had no more problems. The solenoid is on the back of the fridge, it is what the main water supply connects to.
Without a model number here how they usually operate. The DOOR / LIGHT switch disables water and ice in door functions. I.e. it is not supposed to operate with the door open. If the switch is open... i.e the light is not working door open, (Switch has 2 functions Light and Water / ive in door operation) Then the control panel / water / ice in door will all not work either. It is possible for the light to work while the CP / H2o / Ice do not work. Usually if a door switch fails the light stops working also. It is not always the case.
Try holding to door switch plunger depressed and see if your CP works and water in door work. DO NOT try ice in door as you can damage things.
If you respond with a model number and brand; I will see what I can dig up for you use while troubleshooting your unit. Expect to see parts data also.
if your refrigerator is only a year old. it should still be covered by your warranty, if any one works on the refrigerator while still under warranty, your warranty is expired. So check before you put your hands on it. sounds like a power problem, maybe an open fuse etc....
Pull the grill cover off near the floor and look to see if any of the wires have been cut. I found that the grill cover wore on the wires controlling the door functions. First the crushed ice function went, then the water dispenser went. I had splice the wires back together and am leaving the grill cover off. No problems since.
