Hdmi screen format problems

I just set up an avr-3806 with a Tivo HD providing the HDMI input to the receiver with an HDMI out to my Sharp HD LCD flat screen monitor. I have the HDMI input set as V Aux. The video display is not filling the screen (showing with side bars), and does not appear to be recognized by the monitor as HDMI because I don't get the HDMI viewing options with the monitor setup menu.
I have tried turning the convert video setting on the receiver on and off for the v aux input, but it doesn't appear to make a difference.
Any suggestions?

I have tried many things, all with the same result. I tried cycling the power-up sequence starting from the Tivo and moving to the tv; starting from the TV and moving to the Tivo, using the DVP input rather than the V Aux input; turning video convert on; turning video convert off; removing any inputs except the HDMI... The only thing that works is routing the connection directly from the Tivo to the HD tv, then connecting an audio out from the tv to the receiver -- and then connecting my dvd player with component cables directly to the tv. But all this defeats the goal of limiting the number of hanging wires. Since this device is supposed to handle all the switching for me, I would much prefer not to kluge a workaround.

Does your monitor support DVI input? If yes then you can use a HDMI to DVI adapter.. that should certainly fix the problem..

Make sure the control feature is disabled on both units so that they are not trying to send control signals to each other.

Secondly make sure your input is configured to hdmi for both audio and video within the receivers on screen menu The receiver usually auto senses the digital audio signal but doesn't automaticly know that it should use hdmi for video.

Tivo HD displays ''hdmi connection not permitted''

This happened to me many times with my Sharp 40" LCD. I am actually running 2 tvs of of 1 HD Tivo. One in the bedroom with HDMI and then through the wall into my kitchen tv via Component. ( yes whatever is on in the bedroom plays in the kitchen).. So this AM my power dropped out for a few seconds then came back on. When the Tivo rebooted I got that " hdmi connection not permitted" message. In the past, I would just reboot everything and all would be ok.. But today I couldnt get the tv with the HDMI to display the programming. It would show the tivo menus, but when I tried to play anything or watch live tv, the message would pop up again. The kitchen TV with the components was working the whole time...
So finally I rebooted the Tivo one more time. But this time I left the HDMI cable unplugged from the Sharp in the bedroom untill the Tivo was fully booted and a live channel was playing in the kitchen. I then plugged the HDMI back into the bedroon TV, and it came back on. Im not saying this will work for you, But its worth a try

Non-HDMI Tivo connection

The solution I use is S-Video from cable box to TIVO, and from TIVO to TV. That gets you the highest quality signal that the TIVO can handle. To watch true HD signal, switch TV from S-Video input to Hi-Def input and tune to HD channel. I have an HD cable box connected to both outputs, your situation may be different.

Feel free to ask for more help.
