Re: feedback problem

Is there a spot you can install the Garmin that will reduce the heat build up within it? I've noted some audio issues (however not a loud high pitched sound) when my Garmin gets too warm from direct sunlight baking it (along with it's own internal heat build-up) I get a crackly, nasty sounding voice that goes away if I cool the unit down. I've since put mine on a stalk between the front seats out of direct sunlight, heater outlets and away from other audio output devices (heat and RF sources) and have eliminated any audio break down. Before I isolated the unit, allowing it to stay as cool as it could, I also noted that when one of my units gets very warm it would also drop satellite connection. Because of the delay you're experiencing (15 minutes) it sounds like a heat build up issue for you as well.

  • If your device is trying to acquire satellites for the first time, it may take longer than normal to establish an initial position. If the device is powered on and outdoors with a clear view of the sky, this should not take more than 3-5 minutes.
  • If your device does not have full view of the sky while placed in the car, it may not acquire satellites properly. For best satellite acquisition, mount the device on the windshield or dashboard.
  • If your device has not been used for an extended period of time (more than a month), it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites.
  • If your device is indoors, it may not acquire satellites. Even standing next to a window indoors will block a majority of the sky which is needed for a device to locate and lock onto a satellite signal.
  • If you have just finished updating the software in your device or you have performed a master reset, your device may take 3-5 minutes to acquire while outdoors as the data that is used to locate satellites may have been erased.
  • If your device has traveled over 500 miles while turned off or not tracking your travel, it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire even in ideal conditions.
  • If your vehicle has a protective coating on its windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the device receiving signal, your device may need an external antenna in order to acquire satellites.
    • If you suspect this to be an issue, try taking the device outside of the vehicle with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes so that the device can acquire satellites. If your device loses satellites once moved back into your vehicle, you will most likely need an external antenna

Traveling yesterday and it took a long time to load and then it worked for about 15 minutes and went dead - it does nothing now. Tried charging on two different cars and still nothing.

The main charge unit that holds all the energy and allows charge current to store this energy, could have had internal components come lose or no longer can store and hold it's charge due to over charging, overheating, to just use through out years.

Model 1350 will not aquire satelites to operate

During the initial start up of your GPS it may take 15-30 minutes to lock satellites depending on where it is. I would suggest giving it a full charge powering it on then let it sit for 30 minutes. If you are unable to lock satellites still there may be an issue with your unit.

Hope this helps!

Garmin 680 nuvi screen unresponsive worked fine then not. no temp or hit prob

I will suggest you reset your GPS, to reset your gps, follow this steps, turn off your device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press Yes to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
Once the GPS unit is reset, remember to place the device outside where there is a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15 to 30 minutes in order for it to requires fix to GPS satellites. with this, the problem should be rectify.

GPS won't pick up satellite reception.

Let's assume the unit is in good conditions. When you travel for more than 500 Kms the unit need more time to acquire the satellites, so the solution is to keep the unit on in a uncovered area for about 15 minutes.

is the turn by turn voice clear?
is it mounted close to another audio device?
does the music play with out significant distortion?
Are you using the bluetooth with a phone in close proximity?
Does it squeal while being charged?
Does it squeal while connected to a USB hub?

Garmin C340 startup

The clue is that the voice is slowing and low pitch. The main processor time base has slowed... which means everything will be buggy.

First try would be to Reset the unit. Remove the face cover (GENTLY pry it loose by the fingernail groove directly under the GARMIN logo), press the RESET button, then reattach front cover... this is covered in the owners manual, available online.
If not, then it sounds like a hardware failure... time for a 1-800-800-1020 call (their customer service number)
