Question about Samsung DLP HL-P4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Samsung HLP5063W - Vertical Lines

We have vertical lines in groups of eight with empty space in between almost as if they were columns. The lines appear on top of the picture. Changed out the bulb but that did not fix anything.
Also, there is a clanking sound when we turn on the set - this does not happen all the time but does not sound good.
Any idea?
What is the problem?
How do we fix it?
Thanks.

I also have the same problem. The vertical lines are white and will flash on the screen during some scenes. The lines do look like columns that are made up of smaller lines (|||| |||| |||| |||| ||||)

I turned on my TV today and have the vertical line issue. I turned it off and waited a bit and turned it back on - the lines dissappeared. I do not know what the root cause is.

samsung HLP4663w 46 in. Last night while watching TV, 10 columns consisting of eight thin verticle lines appeared on screen and will not go away. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Product warranty has expired; notified Samsung tech, and they had little to say except perhaps it is the color wheel (though i do not hear 'clanging' that others have described). Samsung refered repair shop believes repair will be roughly $700 (yet do not know exactly what the problem is!!!).

Yes, my local tech (w/ Samsung tech support aid) has come to the conclusion that the DMD assembly is bad. Your suggestion was helpful and I scored it so.

I wound up filing a complaint w/ Samung Executive Consumer Relations (or something like that) to try and get the repair reimbursed. The outcome for our claim is still pending.

I have precisely the same problem, but with a little more info. I'm fairly capable electronically, so I fiddled around with the sset a bit. I've discovered that when the vertical lines are present, I can deflect the top right corner of the DMD assembly with a screwdriver, and the lines will dissappear. This result is absolutely consistent. There's clearly a problem with a bad connection inside of the DMD assembly. I've taken this thing apart, and I know that the DDP chip is not soldered into pace, it uses a compression clip to mate it up to the main board. I suspect that the problem lies in this arrangement.

I finally broke down and ordered a new DMD board and it did fix the problem. Was a little tricky to get alignment and squaring set back up, but it looks beautiful again.

An interesting side note is that SamsungParts.com now has the DMD board listed for $528.73, which is $400 less than in December.Must mean refurbished. They also offer a $50 core credit if you return the old one. Obviously, they are dealing with a lot of this.
