Question about Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II Film Scanner

KM DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II

Before using the scanner for the first time, I had accidentally inserted the slide holder into the scanner. Now I can’t get it out. Pressing the Eject button doesn’t help. I can’t even load the EasyScan program. The manual says there should be no holder in the scanner when launching any of the applications. I get error message 50 Open the scanner door. How do I get the door open and the slide holder out of the scanner? I am very frustrated and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

This is how I solved this Problem.
Remove the case by undoing the 3 screws that hold it together. 1 at the rear and 2 on the under side edges. On no account undo the 4 that are symmetrically spaced towards thr front and centre of the unit. these hold all the Good Bits together.

The film holder will ease out. Replace the cover and Bobs's Yer Uncle

If the door to the scanner is actually closed, or the film holder is stuck on it you may have to press the door and film holder in slightly, then let the film holder out while holding the door in. If the door is not actually stuck on the film slider then you should be able to convince the scanner to push the film holder out by turning off the slider and turning it back on again without the software on.

Scanner doesn't recognise their is a slide loaded in the slide holder

The first thing I'd try is to run the scanner with the Nikon software. When you power on the scanner it goes through a variety of checks, and finally you should have a silent scanner with a solid green light at the front. Start the Nikon software and wait until it finds the scanner, if it doesn't you have a hardware problem with the scanner.

If it goes well to this point insert a card or plastic mounted slide and hit Preview. The scanner should then create and image you see on screen. Next step would be to make a scan. If the slide you're trying to scan isn't card or plastic mounted you'll need the Nikon made carrier.

Hope this helps.

The slide holder will not return after scanning. The little wheel that is supposed to move the slide holder just clicks but doesn't move the slide holder. I have to remove it by hand. By the way, this...

I have the 5400 II and have had similar problem. I found out, that it is essential, that the film/slide holder is clean and have a smooth surface. Specially on the edge where it touches the plain bearings. I have lubricated the whole holder with acid-free silicone, wich over time made the scanner work perfectly.

My Nikon CoolScan 4000 is not working properly. All images come with a green shade

I had the same problem with coolscan LS 50 ed, but the chromatic dominant was blue instead. What you have to do is to perform a p.o.s.t. procedure: 1) swith off the scanner and unplug it from the PC; 2) switch off the PC; 3) remove the film-holder from the scanner; 4) switch on the scanner; 6) plug it back to the PC; 7) switch on the PC; 8) insert the slide/film holder. It should work now...

My scanner sometimes crops a particular slide but not others. Some scan ok. What is going on?

Be sure to put the slide in the holder in the proper direction. The opening in the slide holder is rectangular, not square like the slide. If you place the slide in the holder horizontally and the holder window is vertical, it will crop off the sides of your picture.

Funky look to images

Hi folks. I am the originator and have the solution to the problem. I feel a little stupid because I overlooked using a plastic insert/guide which is placed on the scanner, fitting on notches. It lets the scanner know to use the transparency device and provides a notch for film holder placement. It has been so long time since I used film ever since digital photography took over, I overlooked using this plastic insert. With it placed, I can scan film fine. Thanks
