Ignitors keep firing by themselves after my aunt cleaned them 24 hours ago After she did the major cleaning of the stove I used the oven and it worked fine. I lit a burner (Probably front?) and the left rear burner went pop and then all the ignitors keep firing by themselves until I shut off the circuit breaker. Now when ever the stove is turned on the igitors keep firing constantly. I tried unplugging the ignitors one at a time but they all keep firing even if the other ones are disconnected. Any idea what is going on? Thanks, Dave the ignitors continue to spark at all burners even though they are lit

Hot chocolate boiled over on the back right burner and since then all igniters have been firing constantly regardless of which burner is on. We cleaned the stove top with a damp rag to clean up the hot chocolate but the problem persits.

After milk boiled over on one burner one igniter keeps firing. If I turn off the circuit breaker, it stops. But it starts again once turned back on.

I took my knobs off to clean underneath my gas stove and the ignitor switch kept popping continuously. Once the knobs dried out it stopped.  It took about 20 minutes.

I had the same problem with my stove after cleaning it. Obviously some part of the ignitor circuit got wet. All I did was blast the oven as hot as it would go to dry out the connection. After about 10 minutes the problem went away on its own.

If they ignitors worked properly before you aunt cleaned them, the problem could be with the way they were cleaned and what they were cleaned with. Please tell me how she cleaned them and with what. Also, had she cleaned them before without incurring any problems, or was this the first time she had cleaned them?

You have water left over from cleaning and it is shorting out the igniters at the knobs, not the burners. I guess the solution is to wait until it dries out unless you can open the top and maybe use a hair dryer.

Stove top ignitors do not ignite but oven does.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

I have an electric Maytag stove/oven but don't know how to use the self cleaning feature. What do I do?

Dear cooper1914,

There are two types of Ovens that clean themselves.
1) A Self-Cleaning Oven which usually gets locked 1st then set on Self-Clean.
2) A Continuous-Cleaning Oven which is constantly cleaning

Some people prefer the old fashion clean by hand with degreasers but I prefer Self-Clean or Continuous-Clean as there is no need for harsh potent cleaners!

If you have a Self-Cleaning or Continuous-Clean Oven Do Not Clean With Cleaners as it will ruin the flavor of your oven!

Delf-cleaning oven (Frigidaire) caught fire while cleaning. Any recalls on this problem? Stove was purchased about one and a half years ago.

yorkbill,
Wecome to fixya,
Huuum at your service.

You said, your self-cleaning oven (Frigidaire) caught fire while cleaning.
Any recalls on this problem? Stove was purchased about one and a half years ago.

Please give me the model number so I may check for recalls!

If you attempted to clean the oven with drippings or heavy food on the bottom of the oven from spills,
then you can have a small fire in the oven .
But it will burn out.
The user guides all tell the reader that if you drip or spill food in the oven to first, "wipe out loose soil to reduce smoke and avoid damage!"

Cleaning grates of GE profile gas stove

Sounds crazy, but this works. Soak the grates in warm to hot water with 2 dryer sheets (Bounce), let them soak for an hour or two. Unbeliveable how they came clean. I did have to use a Scotch Brite pad on the two that I use most, but it sure beats replacing them.

Apparently there was a water spill around the burner control knob and in the burner itself; We ran the burner to create heat and then turned it off and let the water dry out and evaporate from the burner and igniter area.

Stove top [gas] JENNAIR

Try carefully cleaning around the ignitors. Also clean hole in burners. Clean the holes closest to ignitors. This can be caused by a crack in ignitor, this requires replacement.
