I have a an archos 404. i charged it recently and i unplugged and left it on my desk. after like a week or two, when i turned it on, it turned on and played 10 seconds music and it shut down back again.
To my knowledge, the clock and date system for archos still runs at high power even if it's turned off, therefore, the battery drains out slowly and like mine, finishes up in two weeks. this is so dumb interms of technology features in archos systems.
I might have got this wrong but i thought there a fix you could download from the Archos site,i had the same problem with my mate's one only got to watch 1 and a half episode of the tv series of Heroes,i also ordered a battery type charger that could give it up to 2-3 charges while you travel.

Could I have a little more information on the battery type charger you talk about and the download fix please? Thanks very much.
Thanks so much.
my battery did the same thing. the dvr station does in fact keep the battery charged, but the battery itself looses it's 'memory' of how much charge to hold. i couldn't get any answer from tech support about whether a new battery would have the same problem or would fix it. my guess is the battery is simply not designed to a high number of charge/discharge cycles.
