The console has removable end caps. The white plastic end caps lift off by prying on the top from the back of the console. Sometimes inserting a flat screwdriver in the slot at the top in the back of the end cap and carefully prying upward, makes it easier to pop them loose. The cap will pull off towards you as you are facing the unit from the front. Once the caps come off, there is a screw under each one. Loosen the screws and the panel it will lift up. There are some excellent exploded view diagrams that you can reference at searspartdirect.com. Just type in the model number you provided and look under the "Top and Console" heading. The end caps I'm talking about are listed as items 14 and 18.

My Kenmore model #110.68944891 starts when I press the start button, but stops immediately when I release the start button.

Open the control console to access the start switch. If you have 3 wires on the start switch, replace the start switch.

Kenmore 70 series dryer wont start. I was going to replace the start button but cannot figure out how to get it off with out breaking stuff. do i need to pull all the panels off?

There is a switch that sits behind that start button. To get to it, unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall. There is a metal cover that runs along the upper rear side of the dryer -- remove that and you will see the switch behind that button. You can disconnect the wires going to it (you may want to mark them) and pull the button off of the front of the switch. Then pull that plastic tab up and the switch will pop out if you twist it clockwise.

Push to start switch only works when held in.

Go thru the back to access the push to start via 1/4 inch screws. More than likely the push to start isnt the problem with the heat issue. i would lean towards the motor relay and the heater relays that are on this unit

Need help with OLD dryer

IF YOU MEAN THAT THE DRYER STARTS BACK UP WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED. CHECK TO SEE IF THE PUSH TO START BUTTON IS STUCK PRESSED IN AND NOT SPRINGING BACK OUT.
IF IT IS STUCK, TRY WD-40 TO LOOSTEN IT. OTHERWISE, REPLACE THE SWITCH.

IF THE DRYER KEEPS RUNNING WHEN YOU "OPEN" THE DOOR, THE DOOR SWITCH IS SHORTED. REPLACE THE DOOR SWITCH.
