I have had the same problem...usually had success by taking off the battery, putting it back on, turning the power off and on, etc.  It has always gone back in eventually.  I also tried re-charging the battery and replacing.  Could this be an old battery problem?  Mine is 4.5 years old.

Panasonic PV-GS150 wont eject

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. You need professional service to fix it.

Panasonic PV-L557D vhs-c camcorder wont stay on

it probably goes into a shutdown mode because of those dreaded pan capacitors!!. These are small surface mounted capacitors that dont just go bad in almost all camcorders but they will leak and be very very corrosive to the Printed curcuit board and eat up the pc traces!! The onlt way to see if this is the problem is to have the unit looked at by a quilifyed camcorder specialist and see if that is the problem? Good luck
