Re: james

Do you have the amp bridged first off? if you do unbridge it. Next,

1) Turn all the settings all the way down on the amp.
2) Turn your bass on the radio into the negatives (-2 or-3)
3) Turn the volume up to the point where your highs start to not sound good, then turn them down just enough to where they sound good again.
4) Turn your crossover to about half if your box is ported, or three Fiths if its sealed.
5) Raise your gain slowly untill either the volume doesn't get any higher or you hear the subs start to sound funny. Now turn it down just a hair.
6) Turn your crossover up a hair then down a hair and see what happens, if it gets a touch louder with out distortion then leave it. If it losses clarity then place it back to where it was.
7) Listen to a couple songs you know well and stand in front of your subs at volume to be sure theres no distortion.

You should be good at this point let me know if you need something else.

I have a kicker sx650 powering two kicker cvr 102 at 2ohms but i havve no clue on where to set the settings at and i know this amp should make these subs pound. i need to know exactly what to put each...

How I tune:
turn amp all way down or disconnect rcas for now, turn up stereo to a song with some bass you listen to and crank it as loud as you would (not max about 3/4, use this to tune inside speakers (don't have bass maxed/distortion...)). Now dial in amp: turn up a bit probably to 1/4 or so then tune frequency I'd usually say around 100hz, then adjust gain again to where it sounds easy on them for awhile to let them break in (don't blast them all day!). Usually bass boost is only 1 frequency with a curve (40hz or something) I try to not use it much....

Im totally confused n where to put the settings on this amp and i just want some straight forward help please?

Your SX650.1 is 2 ohm stable so wire the voice coils in parallel and the speakers in series, then bridge the amp. Keep your multimeter close. Don't forget to beef up your input wire size to 4 gauge on the positive and the negative side. The rear channel should be set around 80 Hz. Your amp has a variable low pass crossover (30-200 Hz) with adjustable slope (set at 12/18 to start) but you should be able to hear the bang and the boom in the sub woofer. This is only a starting point for the real ear tune. I turn the gains all the way down and give the head unit 3/4 volume, turn the gains up just before it starts to scream then fine tune the frequency (Hz). Do the front and rear separately by disconnecting the RCA's, and then together. Try and play a wide verity of music while your adjusting your amps, but fine tune what you like. I hope this helps to get you started, Ray

I cant get my jl audio w6 10s to give off much bass with the jl audio 500/1 amp

here is a manual for your subwoofers:

use the wiring diagram for 1.5? (1.5ohm) with 2 speakers. the diagram for 3 speakers will not work, because it would bring the load down to 1 ohm, and the amp cannot go below 1.5 ohm.

to set up the amp:

under "preamp output section", on the "output mode" switch, select "amp filter"

to set up the levels: start with the amp gain pretty far down- with the input voltage on low for line level outputs from the deck, and on high for speaker outputs from the deck. now turn your cd deck as far up as it will go until it distorts, then turn the cd deck down to just where it stops distorting. now, you can start to turn up the gain on the amp.

on the filters, youll prolly want the cutoff filter around 100hz @ 24db slope. start with the infrasonic filters off, but, if you do get into them, try centering between 30 and 60hz on either, and, possibly dropping the cutoff filter to 80hz.

Amp turns off

You did not specify the model you have - however the Flex series is only stable with a load of 4 ohm mono (bridged) and 2 ohm (stereo).
You are driving the amplifier to work too hard, and it is shutting itself down.
Re-wire using one subwoofer (bridged) or wiring the subwoofers on seperate channels.

How do you set this stuff?

Need more info..
How many amps and their RMS rated power.?
If one amp, how many channels + individual power for each channel?.
Two crossovers set at the same redundant and likely to cause more problems.
Do the front speakers have their own X-over? whats the X-over point? and what is their freq. response (total) are they separates
Rear speakers same question.
I'll point out that you cant hear below 20Hz unless your a whale and very few instruments go that low except organs and synthasizers.
The subsonic filter merely block the lower harmonics from eating up amp power.
Their is no universal setting. all systems are different, as are cars, interiors, ears, windows up or down, noise floor, etc.
A RTA helps with the basics but you will still have to tune by ear,
Good sound is difficult enough to achieve,
Great sound is trial and error and very time consuming.
Sorry no simple answer here. Find a good installer ,preferably with sound judging experience,
It wont be cheap, but if you have enough money invested in the system, Don't skimp. or all you'll have is bragging rights
Best of luck, Sumthin

Amp settings

It's going to be mainly "what sounds best", but I'll give you a start.
  • Set the gain to 50%.
  • Set the LP filter to 12db at about 80Hz.
  • Set the infrasonic filter to ON and at about 20Hz.
  • Set the Bass EQ to ON, Q to 0.7, center freq to 40Hz, and boost to about 5dB.
The other settings are going to be based on how the system is connected to the head unit.
