It is a Kenmore Mod # 66575801001. I would like to replace a part if possible, ignitor, thermostat or both?

  • Thomas Rehm Dec 03, 2007

The console? Is it the top of the stove? Do I access from the front or the back?

  • Thomas Rehm Dec 03, 2007

Is this a part I would have to unsolder the old board and solder a new one in, or is it less technically difficult? Thanks a lot for your help on this.

OK, I have another wrinkle for you. We lost power this morning for less than an hour. When I got home, everything worked as though nothing was wrong. Is the lack of ignition still a sign that the spark module is shot? I would hate for the problem to occur again, but would hate to spend money on a part that doesn't need replacing. Thanks.

If both top and oven are not igniting, then most likely you need an ignitor board. I should be located behind the left side of the console as you are looking from the front of the stove. I will look it up to be sure. There should be a tech sheet on the back panel of the stove to help in checking the boards.

Yes the console is the top of the stove. The control panel. You can get to the module from front or back. Probably easier from the back.

No soldering required. All the wires plug in. I don't think you wou will have any problem.

It is odd that it is working now. It may work fine now for years, or it may quit today. I still think your problem was in the spark module since top and oven were both out. The oven is controled the ERC (electronic range control) and the surface is controled by the surface switches. The only thing they have in common is the spark module and the gas supply. Since you could light the burners with a match, the gas is ok.

There is a chance the ERC was sending the module some signal that caused the module to shut down, but there usually is some failure code displayed if this happens.

Without checking the voltage at different test points when the stove is not working properly, there is no way to say the module is definately the problem, but it is the most likely culprit from the information you gave me.

If it is working properly now, I probably would not replace anything yet and see what happens. If it quits again, try unplugging it a few minutes and see if it starts back working.

most likely the igniter is not working at 100% and the gas valve won't open unless it is at 100%. Replace the igniter first.

My Viking oven will not lite, the igniter glows, but it will not lite. I have to turn on the 4 stove top burners and then it will lite. Also, when the oven reaches temperature and the therastat shuts it...

That sounds like you have too high of gas pressure which keeps the oven gas valve from opening...turning on the burners lowers the gas pressure enough to allow the gas valve to open. this is a saftey feature on many gas valves.
To stop that you will need to install a gas pressure regulator which will hold back the gas pressure so the valve can open.

Here is a tip that I wrote about regulators and them failing on the low side, but it will give you and idea what I am talking about and what you need to install in the line to your range.

GE XL44 Gas Stove and Oven. Everything works normal except the oven which stopped working suddenly (no flame). Couldn't find the manual to check troubleshooting guide.

The oven uses a silicone carbide ignitor which requires 3.6 amps or better to open the gas safety valve.
If you don't see any glow from it then it is either blown or the gas valve has gone bad. If it is glowing but not real bright it probably is weak.

I have a kenmore gas range with electric ignitors. My question is that my stove top doesnt ignite but lets gas by and I can use a lighter to lite them. However my oven doesn't do gas no...

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

Oven does not work

According to the manual, the self cleaning latch could be stuck.

If the oven door is open, press STOP/CLEAR to clear display, then depress and hold switch plunger for 6 seconds (Located in the upper right corner of the oven front) and the oven door will unlock.

If the oven door is locked, press STOP/CLEAR to clear the display then apply pressure to the upper right corner of the oven door and the door will unlock. If the "F" code reappears, contact a Sears trained repair specialist.

Kenmore Oven not working

Remove the bottom panel from inside the stove. Turn on the stove and see if the igniter glows bright red. If not glowing, replace the igniter. In some cases, even if the igniter is glowing, the resistance may not be low enough to turn on the gas valve. In either case the igniter has probably gone bad. ($50.00 to $90.00 for igniter)

Kemore Gas oven - trouble igniting

Depending on the age of the oven, it is possible that your ignitor is now weak and it is taking longer to ignite.
