The colour is fine while on tv channels but when changed to watch a dvd the colour goes Black and white, when I stop DVD the screen picture rolls

- I seem to have the same problem, DTT/TV is fine, same with COMPOSITE, and HDMI, but when i change it to COMPOSITE, the picture changes to black and white, rolls and changes input to NTSC from PAL. As far as I can find out..there is no way to change the COMPOSITE colour scheme from PAL to NTSC and vice versa, so its doing it itself. This is a pain in *** as I have the foxtel conected to it this way and i cant watch it now :(- joncoJan 07, 2009
- Mine is a new Panasonic 42 inch tv and an old dvd player. Was working when originally set up, but now is black and white. Did have black and white also on tv once, but was loose cable. Tightened (monster) cable and seemed fixed. At least it was on the tv, I guess I didn't check the dvd til now. Did I get a bad cable? (The cable doesn't tighten on one end as well as the other)- Guest

- Changing from Component or Composite input back to DTT/TV and it automatically changes my main signal from PAL to NTSC and this brings about the black and white and rolling picture. Even though I reset the channels back to the PAL signal, once you try and watch a DVD or video, it changes back to the NTSC format. Still no luck with an answer from Hitachi yet!!!- yakswrightSolution #1

Hi there,
My sister-in-law has exactly the same problem and is a common one with this unit.
I've spoken to a technician who says that:
1. Hitachi are withdrawing from Australia and there are VERY limited service centres left
2. The problem is a chip on the main board and depending when the TV was made will determine whether the chip is a plu-in or soldered on to the main board - if it's the latter, you'll be up for a main board at around $400
3. He couldn't get the price of the plug-in chip because he couldn't get through to Hitachi.

I am no expert so my terminoligy is not perfect. I just bought VIZO 42". DVD player was playin in black and white.. I ended up getting it to work with color and sound by hooking it up as "AV" not "COMPONENT" and using a S-Video Cable along with the RED,WHITE,YELLOW cables also.Now, this is hooking directly from DVD to the TV. I dont have it going through the directtv receiver. It works the way i have it, so i aint pushing it.
