Question about Toshiba Televison & Video
My names Bryn and I live in the SE of England. UK.
Thanks for listening to my problems with a SKY RCU + T/V mismatch.
I have a standard Toshiba T/V model number: 32 WD 98B and a Panasonic SKY box (Model TU-DSB40).
The old RCU for the SKY box keeps failing at times beacuse of the wear and tear on some buttons through old age, so I bought a new SKY hand set RCU via Ebay.
I followed the instructions for setting up the hand set RCU from the Panasonic user guide, which said........
1. Turn on your TV. I did this via the T/V's handset onto BBC1.
2. I then Pressed TV on the new Sky remote control.
3. I Held down SELECT and the RED button together for two seconds (a bit more to get the 2 flashes) until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice (it did).
4. I pressed TV on the Sky remote control again.
5. It said, "Key in the 4 digit code for your brand of TV then press STANDBY/OFF key."
The brand set for my Toshiba is 0156 apparently, so in that went.
The instructions said, "The light on the Sky remote control blinks twice".
My RCU only blinked ONCE........ and then the instructions said,
"If the light blinks once only, re check the code for your TV and start again at step 1." So I end up going round in circles!
The frustrating part is I can have control of the sound on SKY T/V with the controller, but cannot changes channels or get TV GUIDE. None of the other SKY RCU buttons activate the Toshiba SKY unit.
My problem seems to be an incorrect code (but it says 0156 in black and white in the Toshiba instruction manual) or some incorrect key inputs whilst trying to follow instructions. Out of synch key inputs.
6. Press the on/off button (power-top right button on your Sky remote control).
If your TV switched off, press select . The light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
If your TV did not switch off, press tv , then press the on/off button. Repeat this (press tv , then on/off) until your TV turns off, then press select.
If the light on your Sky remote control blinks three times, your Sky digibox has checked all the possible settings for the code you used. Check that you have the right 4 digit code and start again at step 1.
7. Press tv guide . [I cannot get that]
If you see the TV Guide screen, the remote control setup process is complete.
If you did not see the TV Guide, you must now set the TV Guide function as follows:
8. Press tv on your Sky remote control.
9. Hold down select and the green button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control blinks twice.
10. Key in the number of the channel on your TV that you use for watching satellite TV (I use 6)
11. Press select on your Sky remote control. The red light blinks twice. The remote control setup process is complete.
I have tried and double tried all these options above and the SKY RCU will not send the correct commands to the Panasonic unit and thus I have no SKY T/V. Request assistance please.

SOURCE: tv stuck in standby
I believe these Sony TV's have a built in obsolesence and Sony does not care about fixing them. I don't think a 7-year old TV is an "old model". Who can afford to by an expensive TV every 7 years. Shame on Sony.

You should examine the input power of the TV. If you dare to open the back of the TV You should examine the by using the tester to test the continuity of the voltage input of the TV. i guess voltage regulator need to be tested.
Be careful high voltage inside the TV.
The best way is to contact the vendor of the TV or sony service center in your area.
may this help,

SOURCE: TV won't turn on
The set is in protective shutdown because a problem was detected. The 5 blink code indicates that the problem circuit. In this case it is the blanking circuit. Were there any indications of problems prior to the storm? If not, I'll need to lok up this one for the specifics. Do you intend to repair this yourself?
Let me know and I'll provide the details.

I'm having the same problem. My stand-by light blinks 3 times though. The tv clicks as if it is going to turn on, but it never does. Is there a simple solution to this problem?
