Copier, Printer black streaks on copy or all black page

We have a brother copier that prints with black streaks and sometimes makes the whole page black. Its a DCP 1200. It also gets real warm if doing a lot of copies. What do you suggest? Replaced heat sensor a year ago.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother intellifax or MFC, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

and also, don't forget to clean the corona wire on the drum/cartridge (there's a thingy to pull back and forth along the wire down there). The laser scan window is under the drum/cartridge and can get toner on it if you aren't careful when adding toner.

What is causing black streak

Usually black streaks are caused by faulty rollers in the fuser assy. Depending on how many prints/copies you have on your current one it may be time to change it.

My minolta ep 4000 copier prints with thick black streaks imprinted on page. what's wrong? is it the corona, the drum, or something else?

Most likely it is the drum cleaning blade. One indicator of the drum cleaning blade going bad is that the black lines will get worse as you run multiple copies. So if you make 10 copies for example, the last copy out will be streaked worse than the first copy out. Drum cleanig blades are about $30 bucks plus whatever your local service guy charges for a svc call.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Black streaks on copies

Sounds like the drum unit has some scarring on the surface and it is causing toner to be picked up in the grooves and placed on to every single page that is printed on the printer.

Pull the drum unit out of the copier and inspect the surface, being careful not to touch it as the oils of your skin will damage the drum surface. If you have scarring around the green/blue/black drum surface then you need to prder a new drum unit.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Keith

Brother MFC 8220 all-in-one fax prints with a vertical line

First guess is you have a bit of dirt (often white-out from people scanning corrected paper that's not quite dry) stuck on the fax scan window. This should be described pretty well in your user manual (which you can download online from brother.com).

Its also possible that there is dirt (typically loose toner) on the laser scan window (there's a laser that shines through it to get the image pattern on the drum). That window is often along the bottom of the unit under the drum/cartridge (take the cartridge out and look). The Brother manual I've seen seems to ignore this possibility.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother Intellifax or MFC or other laser copier/printer/fax, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

Note also that when transporting/moving some laser copier with the toner cartridge inside, the toner can get out and make a big mess inside (including getting the laser scan window dirty). An air compressor can be usefull to blow it out. And sometimes using alcohol to clean is a BAD idea (maybe incompatible with plastic and rubber parts). A damp rag is probably fine.

Black lines or smudge marks\running down the prints

Hello sir;The streak line from printing also should be from copy, because the line come from imaging unit, check the meter count if close to or over 50,000 then replace drum and drum blade, it will take care the problem.
The brother printer you need to replace imaging unit( drum unit).

I have a BROTHER MFC- 8860DN that makes black streaks on copies

If this is only happening with copies and not straight prints, it is possible that the problem is with the scanning unit. Use the soft cloth to clean the scanner area to the left side of the machine where pages are scanned when run through the page feeder. A spec of dust or other debris in this area will appear as a streak along the length of the page.

If it occurs on all prints, You may need to replace the drum or clean the fuser unit.
