Installing wd 750gb ext hdd

I have followed the very basic instructions but nothing went as said! The power is connected to the hdd unit and the usb cable too. The circled lights are on. However, my computer does nothing when it is pluged into my computer...n search for new hardware, or anything as usual. I even tried looking in the control pannel for setting up new hardware. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AX570G (not quite 3 yrs. and am operating under Win. XP professional... The quick installation guide says there should be auto setup and menue with software options offered when the installation is complete. HELP!!! I desperately need to backup my entire hdd ASAP.

In 'My Computer' do you see a new drive appear like E: drive?

If so this is the drive you have attached. If you cannot put files on it - it may need formatting. Right click on E drive and choose format - Click Start. Once completed you should be able to drag and drop file on to this drive.

How can Western Digital hard disk drives be recognized by third party USB external docking stations?

The format on a disk, will not be relevant of recognition via an USB connector. To connect a drive via USB, the computer must have the correct driver for the hardware you are connecting. Be sure you connect the HD coerce to the external harness and make sure it is supplied with the correct voltages.
When you connect a working system on the USB connector and the drive does not have a format, the computer will see that and ask you if it should format the drive.

Hi. My computer says I ejected my WD My Passport external drive but it was not properly ejected. How can I fix this. I need all my thesis files but computer can read the external drive! Help please!

Try to test your WD Ext HDD to a different computer and check if you will get the same problem.

If the same problem persist try to use a different cable for your WD Ext HDD.

If still fails kindly ask the store where you bought the WD Ext HDD on how to retrieve your files and have WD EXT HDD replaced?

If your WD Ext HDD works to a different computer then update the BIOS and Chipset of the computer where your WD Ext HDD connected previously.

Hope this helps.

Ext hdd wd3200me does not detect on my com.. Its using intergrated usb controller method..any suggestions..

Update the drivers for the communication. You can download from the manufacture's website of the EXT hdd.
They are usually under the download or support tab.
Just down the drivers, double-click on the file to install them into your pc, then restart pc then connect.

Two devices stopped working after plugging them into a powered usb hub: a laser usb mouse and a wireless network adaptor. Both were working fine when plugged into a regular usb hub. Got the powered hub...

the two device wont have any issue. but i would suggest to connect the ext. hdd directly to the sys. and it requires more power, and hub does not provide that much power which is required for ext hdd. you can try to connect only the ext. hdd to hub and check.
