Aspire 5100, when anything is plugged into the USB ports,

the Keyboard and Fingerpad stop working. After restart

they will work until the usb is used.

Acer Aspire 3100, boots to XP but cannot work the cursor from touch pad or from USB mouse. Cannot gain control of the laptop. Not my device just helping a friend. A shop updated their anti-virus protection but did not register it properly. I registered it and got everything working. The owner used it that night all fine. Then plugged in a new USB cable (one with the flashy blue led's in it) to connect a printer. this caused the freeze up. Since then its been cold booted a number of times always the same outcome. I cant get to the Bios proper, only options on acer are which gives windows boot order not bios setup. keyboard and pointers don't work in screen either. Looks like a bios/motherboard issue.

How can i unlock my keyboard

Recognize that you have a locked keyboard.

If your PC computer is not responding to keystrokes or is responding very slowly, you could have a locked keyboard.

Use your mouse to move the pointer over the "Start" button.

Use the left-click button to bring up the "Start" pop-up menu.

Position the pointer over "Settings" and use the left-click button to select. T

hen select "Control Panel." On some versions of PC operating systems, you can select "Control Panel" directly from the "Start" menu.

Select "Accessibility Options" to bring up another menu, then select "Keyboard."

You'll see three options that have check boxes.

Make sure each check box does not have a check mark in it.

The three options are "StickeyKeys," "FilterKeys" and "ToggleKeys."

Note that these options can become checked if the keyboard operator has repeatedly depressed the "Shift" key in rapid succession--or if the "Shift" key is held down for longer than eight seconds.

If the keyboard is still not responding, the problem could be that the computer has lost communication with the keyboard.

Turn off the computer.

Disconnect the power supply.

Remove and then reconnect the keyboard cable, then reconnect the power supply.

Turn the computer on.

This will reboot the computer, allowing it to recognize the keyboard.

hope this helps

When i turn on my dell inspiron mini screen to log in appears but my keyboard is not responding to let me log in -- help!

Almost sounds like the keyboard has gone bad. Try this: remove the battery and power cable.
Wait 30 seconds or so and put the battery back in. It may work now.
Also, when the system starts up, can you hit the F2 key to get into setup (at least I think it's the F2 key). If so, you may be able to load the BIOS defaults and it will work again.
Otherwise, you are looking at a repair job.

Keyboard wont respond to the pc I tried two different keyboards.what should I do?

Ensure that keyboard lights are illuminated.

Restart the computer with keyboard connected and try booting into setup to see if the keyboard is recognized by bios, if you can get into the bios, then this is an operating system related issue.

If the keyboard still does not respond even in bios, you may have a damaged PS/2 connector. If this is the case, it can be soldered by a technician or the keyboard can be substituted with a USB keyboard.

My hp 2100 presario laptop in not booting

Startup problems
If the notebook doesn’t respond when you turn it on
• Connect the AC adapter.
• Reset the notebook by inserting the tip of a paper clip into the reset button on the
bottom of the notebook. Then press the power button to turn it on.
• If the notebook still doesn’t respond, remove the battery and AC adapter, remove
any PC cards, and undock the notebook if docked. Then plug in the AC adapter
again, and reset the notebook using the reset button.
If the notebook won’t boot from battery power
• Make sure the battery is properly inserted and fully charged. Check the battery
charge by removing it and pressing the pad on the side of the battery. The lights
show the charge level.
• If available, try another battery.
If the notebook won’t boot from the floppy disk drive
• Make sure the floppy disk drive is selected as the boot device.
• If you’re using a USB floppy drive, use the BIOS Setup utility to make sure
Legacy USB Support is enabled. If your notebook also has a built-in floppy
drive, use the BIOS Setup utility Boot menu to make sure the USB floppy drive
is the first device under Removable Drive.
If the notebook stops responding after booting
Check whether you are connected to a TCP/IP network with no DHCP server. This
can cause a long delay at startup because DHCP is enabled. Contact your network
administrator to determine the proper TCP/IP configuration

***IF THE NOTEBOOK HAS POWER BUT WONT BOOT INTO OPERATING SYSTEM-
Press F2 when you start it to enter BIOS to check your BOOT ORDER to make sure your HD is listed first on the list.
If it is not listed remove it and reinsert it and then try again.. GREAT LUCK!! Please Rate Me, K? Thanks- Lucky4lynn2

On boot with battery or on power same result. The computer boots to window sign on screen but mouse and keyboard do not work. On reboot tried F2 for setup screen which does work but then once at setup...

i would have told you to go into the bios but seen as you say that F2 key does not work on boot indicates that the keyboard has failed, to check this try another keyboard and see if you get the same result, or if the keyboard is USB try it in a different USB port

hope this helps

kind regards

My Acer Keyboard wont respond when i press the key's

A few days ago my acer laptop aspire 1640z , began to behave slower than usual when typing on the keyboard. At first I thought it was a virus, I did all the necessary scans and found none.
I then thought it might be the Keyboard driver, but it wasn’t.
I went into safe mode by keeping F8 down when you start the computer and select the directory service restore mode, which resets certain applications back to its original state. I found that my internet AOL connection and explore and fire fox would not connect to the net. Make sure you have a disk for AOL or setup file for fire fox saved, to reinstall the software. This seemed to work a bit but by accident, I remove the battery from my laptop and kept the power cord connect and Wow! it works even faster than before.
I have also notice that my battery does not hold a charge anymore. My theory is that because the battery is in critical status when connected to laptop…. (Even though the power cord is connected), the computer thinks that its going to run out of power and wants to go into hibernation mode which slows everything down including typing on the keyboard.
So before you try the safe mode option, remove the battery and use only the power cord cable and see if this solves the problem. Mine is running fine again ,but when I put battery back it slows down again. I read on the net its affecting only Acer Laptops, probably because the way the power settings software is set up for the Acers.

Keyboard/touchpad problem.

The keyboard and touch-pad are connected to an internal USB interface, If no USB interfaces are working at all this suggests that the USB host controller (a physical computer chip) has failed.
You can try a chip-set reset; disconnect both power and battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds (timed), this will reset all chip settings to default and discharge any static buildup but this is in no way guaranteed to fix the problem. If the laptop is still under warranty arrange for repair.
In the mean time most of the Aspire 5100 series have a PC card slot on the side so you could use a USB or PS2 host card to connect a keyboard and mouse.
