Question about Western Digital Caviar WD200BB 20 GB Hard Drive

PC stopped reading Cavalry External HardDrive

I have a 250GB external hard drive connected to my PC running Windows XP MCE. The drive is a Cavalry Mobile Storage CAUC37250 USB 2.0/Westen Digital WD Caviar Enhanced IDE Hard Drive WD2500BB. The unit powers up and powers off, but whent eh unit is on the blue light on the front just blinks and the PC doesn't recognize that it's connected. Please tell me someone has a trick to get my data off of there. I was an idiot and had some important files saved only to that external hard drive.

Unable to read external HDD after plugging it to a Mac (previously it is readable via a Windows PC)

Chances are it was formatted as NTFS format by the PC which is not MAC compatible. You will need to reformat the drive in HFS format if you want it to work as a MAC disk only or in FAT32 format if you want to read it in PC and MAC machines.

Can i transfer information to a mac

If the external hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS file format then the MAC cannot read data off this hard drive.
The FIX..
Connect the USB external hard drive to a Windows computer and copy your data off this hard drive to the computer.
Then format the external hard drive in FAT32 file format. (the MAC can read and write to data to and from a Windows PC)
Now copy the your data from the computer back onto the external hard drive.
Now you can connect the external hard drive to the MAC and download your data to the MAC.

USB hard drive not recognized by Mac and by PC

Does the external drive work when connected to some _other_ computer? (Friend? Office? Home?)

It could be a failure either in the "hardware" inside the external-case (the USB adapter & interface)
or in the disk-drive "inside" the external-case.

So, a qualified technician can open the external drive, remove the disk-drive, and connect it directly to a computer, to see if the files can be "directly" read from the disk-drive.

If not, then you should search online for a "data recovery" service -- they are expensive, but they physically repair a damaged disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your data to another disk-drive.

Dead USB external HDD. Disk spins, light is on, but no one is home.

it does sound like the Hard drive enclosures circuit board may be the problem, there are ways to get the data off that will void your warranty, or there are services you can send it to who will get your data back for you and then replace it.

Let me know what your preference is and I can assist you either way.

I suggest to connect the harddrive straight to the computer as a slave disk, coz i think the casing power has been damaged. make sure u set its jumper as slave, the harddrive in the machine which contaoins windows should be the master.
