exact same problem red light blinks but dont come on

  • wishy Apr 05, 2008

same problem, from standby attempting to turn it on results in the red light flashing, usually this goes to green and the tv switches on but nothing! No extended warranty, only 18 months old, comet quoted me £50 for labour and however much the part costs.... I have been told that it is "tripping" meaning its attempting to come on but not because of a safety issue..????

Red light on power button blinks and when attempting to turn on it blinks green for a minute and then goes back to red. Lamp indicator light flashes red once every five seconds.

The manual says to keep trying to turn it on but this is not working.

The STANDBY light will flash if the television detects an issue within the television. Some of these issues can be resolved simply by following the steps below to reset the television.

    1. Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.

    2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
    3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

    5. Turn on the television.

If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

Problem is, they're cheap TVs, with no support. Goodmans is a 'brand' owned by someone else - Aicha, or JuJitsu or someone. The model is not listed on their website, and they won't reply to your emails. So: go whistle, throw it in the river, and spend the money you would have spent on the 'extended 'warranty'' on something useful: beer.

My tv has just done the same thing, are the micro controllers ready for purchase or is it a specialist item unique to tv or type? what sort of price are we looking at for a new one?

If you switch your tv of at the plug the software cant do the updates. Leave the tv in standby over night and that should work.

Hi ya
I had the same problem just today with my Goodmans GTVL26W8HD TV I was at it all day trying to get it to turn on. It was like it was stuck in stand by mode, Until my partner opened it up and unplugged the control panel at the top of the TV ( The manual control buttons ) now it works via the remote control . He does stress however thats its extreamly dangeroue to mess with TV;s as the electrical current in a TV even when unplugged can Kill , So if you don't know what your doing leave well alone and get someone who does know what they are doing to do it for you
Good Luck :-)

My standby light flashes red/blue? and no pic,its only weeks old

I would take it back and get a replacement, it is a lemon, it will void warranty if you open it up. It can be defctive power supply module.

Tv keep going on standby when you turn it on

tv goes into standby all the time if a power supply is not fine, what happens is that a power supply produces two voltages, one small one powers a standby components and bigger voltage powers a line transformer which later produces more small voltages,
then later cancels the first small voltage.

chec your power supply semi conductors like, transistors, diodes and small value resistors, on your power supply. some power supply uses a IC to oscillate a ht. so check a supply at a w/shop.
