Have you isolated which cylinder is misfiring?
either way I would have a compression test done .. to find out which cyl is not firing pull 1 spark plug lead off at a time until you get the one that makes no difference

What's the firing order of a Mitsubishi 6g74 engine v6 right hand drive ?

If dizzy is still in place and leads are connected.
Remove dizzy cap and get someone to give starter short kick with ig key making sure hands are clear of moving partsand not touching leads. if rotor button goes clockwise then set to top dead centre with timing mark on pulley rotor button should point to no. 1 so by following plugs you can work out firing order. heads usually have cylinders numbered .

Find the end of the plug wire for cylinder 1. Place the plug wire into the distributor cap. Rotate the Crankshaft until Cylinder #1 is TDC. align the rotor in the distributor cap with plug wire number 1.

My '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd 6 cylinder is giving me fits right now. It stalls backfires losing speed while driving down road then if I pull over and turn off and on sometimes it will be okay. What could...

When was the last time you tuned up your Jeep? Spark plugs, cap and rotor can certainly attribute to if not cause the problem you are describing. Definitely sounds like a fuel problem (too much fuel being dumped in the cylinders.)

1989 v6 camry engine missfire

no your problem is definately the dizzie cap, as i found out to my cost on a lansia beta. any kind of crack in ur dizzie will cause probs. best way to find out is park your car in the dark open bonnet with engine running then get a mist spray with water in it spray at dizzie and you will see a slight yellow arc around the crack! any crack in bakelite distributors leads to loss of one or more banks

I'm needing a wiring diagram of the firing order for a 1992 Suzuki Sidekick 4 cylinder 16valve

The firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2. If all the leads have been pulled off the dizzy cap, you'll have to remove No 1 spark plug (leave it threaded into the plug hole by 1 turn) and the dizzy cap. Turn the motor over by hand in the clockwise direction and listen for air being forced out of the No 1 plug hole. When you start to hear that, it means you are approaching TDC on No 1 cylinder. Now look at the front crankshaft pulley and stop turning the engine when the mark on the pulley is close to the marks on the timing belt cover. It doesn't have to be exact (unless you've removed the dizzy). Now where the dizzy rotor is pointing is where No 1 lead has to be fitted. Observe the direction of rotation of the rotor and the next point it comes to will be where you fit No 3 lead; No 4 lead next; and finally No 2 lead.

Working on a 1976 super beetle. won't start, replaced coil, plugs and wires, and was rewarded with a couple of backfires out the exhaust but that's it. help please.

Here is the layout of the cylinders in relation to the dizzy. When you align the timing mark of the crankshaft pulley to the mark on the casing, if you take off the dizzy cap the rotor arm should lign up with a line/groove in the top of the dizzy body. This is where #1 lead should be, the rest should follow in a clockwise firing order of 1-4-3-2.2d903e1.png

Car will not start

If I am right, the firing order is,1-3-4-2. With the dissy cap removed, have someone turn the engine over so you can see which way the rotor arm goes. Set the engine to TDC and the rotor arm should point to the No1 cylinder at the start of the firing order. If it rotor points away from the No 1 cylinder then slacken the dissy housing and move the diddy until the rotor ppoints to the No1 cylinder. Now pHT lead from the No1 spark plug to the No 1 possition on the dissy cap. The next lead goes on the next available possition on the dissy cap in the way of the rotation of the rotor then to the No3 spark plug carry on the same with 2 and 4 and that should solve your problem unless you have a different firing order.

What is the firing order for a VW polo 1998 - where is number one on the distributor?

What you need to do is...

1, Find TDC (top dead centre) for cylinder number 1. Easiest way to do this is to get the car on level ground, put it in 5th gear, handbrake off and pull / rock the car forwards. You are looking to line up the timing dot on the crank pulley to the notch on the cover. At the same time observe which direction the rotor arm turns as well i.e. clock or anti-clock wise.

2, Once you have found TDC, look to where the rotor arm is pointing and that will be towards plug number ones lead position.

3, Now assuming the firing order is 1-3-4-2 and #1 cylinder is at the opposite end to the gearbox, you should be able to work out what goes where.

4, Look at the rotor arm position as you have set up the timing, fit the cap then fit the lead to #1 cylinder. Fit the other leads as above.
