Nero uses a driver that interferes with hibernation, this problem doesn't exist with a nero before 5.0 so try that until they come with a new version

or try to live with it, sorry

I think you have to shut your computer down completely and reboot. This means that you will lose any work you didn't save before going in standby mode.
If your PC has a 'reset' button (usually located near the power button), press it. Your machine should reboot. If it doesn't or if you don't have one, you can try pressing and holding the power button for about 5 seconds. This should shut down your computer completely. Press the power button once more and it should boot normally, though you might get a warning saying Windows didn't shut down properly. If you get the choice, just choose to boot Windows normally. If pressing and holding the power button doesn't work, try looking for a power switch on the back of your machine. It should be near the power cable. Flip the switch, wait a few seconds and flip it again, then boot your computer as usual. You might get the same message which I mentioned above.

Dell pc with windows xp wont come out of standby mode to be able to power up pc and use it

First, how do you know it's in standby mode?
I would turn it off and disconnect from the power source. Then plug it back in and try to start it. If possible, start it in safe mode to see if you can identify what is happening. If in safe mode, do a system restore back a day or two.

My acer aspire one hangs when i set to standby mode

You don't specify but it seems like you are using Windows. This problem can be caused because you didn't set up an Account name. You can add one user, give yourself full admin rights, and do NOT require a password.

Default in Windows from standby is to log in as user...it goes wonky if no user is set. It can't find the user and does not know what to do, you have to reboot to get out of it, all stuff saved is lost.

BTW When you are at the Standby screen, hold down SHIFT key and it will change to Hibernate, if that option is available. Hibernate saves all your stuff to the hard drive and powers down..much better for batteries than Standby

Hope this helps

Windows XP Pro hangs on resume from standby or hibernate

There are many reasons this can happen, and unfortunately very difficult to pinpoint the issue in a particular case.

1. In your system BIOS there is usually two sleep mode (power states) you can select. It is Usually set to S3, change it to S1 (or vice versa), and disable wake on LAN (if available) unless you need it

2. Attempt a clean boot and see if some background startup item or service is causing the issue. see this article for troubleshooting startup items

3. Make sure you drivers (especially chipset, network, video and sound) and BIOS are up to date.

4. Disconnect as many things as you can (boot with just your keyboard, mouse and monitor) try a different mouse and keyboard.

I hope you find the cause, also check in Event Viewer to see if there are corresponding errors

Acer 5110 won't standby properly

Check the power-save settings / properties. You may have to hit a specific key to "wake" it up. To make things worse, sometimes you have to hit yet ANOTHER key to wake it from hibernate.

Click Start, then turn off computer, and make sure that your computer is not set to standby or hibernate. This works if you are running Windows XP or Windows 2000. Hope this helps!
