Re: inside

In simple terms the internals of the router are of little physical interest -- given that I would describe a router as a computer that controls communication traffic. In the case of this specific device it can distribute an incoming internet connections to up to 4 wired devices and numerous wireless devices. Internally the routers programming can be optionally configured (generally using an internet browser). Some of the capablities include the ability to encrypt wireless communications to prevent others from using your internet connection, it can address logon/login requirement should your internet service provider require them and it can limit access to specified MAC addresses assigned to your network cards (also preventing unauthorized access). Again physically what is inside a router is of little interest to me as the changes I consider necessary are all accessible from a web browser without physically getting inside of the router.

How do i rename wireless network connection

You need to access the wireless settings via the homescreen for the router. You need to type in the address of your router into your browser of choice, then log in to it. You can find the specific address for your router by looking it up online and what the default sign in name and password is ( you can then change that as well ). Many times the default is as easy as Admin/Password

Water inside the board

First, this router is probably toast. You could try drying the router out with silica gel or similar, else just replace it. This router goes for around $30 or less nowadays.

If you have nowhere else to put a router than outside where it will be subjected to the elements, then you need to get a weatherproofed box to put the router in. I would recommend keeping the router inside away from the elements. If you have signal problems, you may wish to try out a Wireless Signal Booster.

I forgot my password and need help on how to retrieve it or change it.

There is a reset button on the back of the router; just use a paperclip to poke it. Then the default settings will be restored, and the username/password should both be admin

Just purchased iMac with Snow Leopard OS. Apple tech spt states WEP broadcasts incompatible with OS. Need to update router to WPA or WPA-2. How do I do this with DI-614+

Basically ypu will need to change the wireless settings of the router.
To change the wireless settings you will need to access the router set up page.
Is there any computer connected to the router? If not then you will need to connect one computer to the router with the cable. Open the set up page of the router and change the wireless settings of the router. When you change the wireless security settings, change the wireless network name also ( SSID ). Once you change the SSID and the security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on all the wireless devices with the new network name and security

How do you change the network name for a 120N?

You need to login to you router. If you're not sure how to do it, do the following.

1. You need to determine the default gateway: press the windows + 'R' button and type in 'cmd' or alternatively, click start, run and type 'cmd' and hit enter. Once the command window has opened, type ' ipconfig', and what we want is the default gateway address.

2. Type the default gateway addres into you browser and login (if you're not sure what it is or if you've forgotten it, you will need to reset the router.

3. Once you have logged in, you need to select wireless, and then basic wireless settings. You will see and option 'wireless network name (SSID). This is the option to change the network name!

Securing router

Go to your network properties and at TCP/IP go to its properties.
go inside "advance" and then go inside the "Options menu".
Now enable the TCP/IP filtering and set to "permit only" enter the TCP/IP numbers of the workstation that you have... apply it to the three boxes (TCP, UDP and IP Protocols)

Hope this helps... Goodluck!!!
