Canon screen problem

Hi, My sd200 power shot's screen went to a mostly white with a dark streek across it the other day after turning it on. It has a small line through the dark streek and some differeent color bars running from top to bottom. Is the screen gone or is there a fix? I had just been using it outside an hour before and it worked fine.
I am in Antarctica working until mid feb. so sending it to canon may not work time wise and they will not send back to a po box or an apo address.
The camera still takes photos because I checked it on another persons camera. the battery is also good.

Any sugestions, Danny, sphalam@yahoo.com

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status, so it can wait until you leave Antartica. Please check the following two links for more info:

It sounds like your camera has encountered either a bad CCD issue, which is the image sensor capture device under the lens. Usually when it goes bad, you get crazy colors, or problems with the image. Or you might have a broken LCD, which can be replaced for fairly cheap as well. It is kind of hard to tell from your description with the problem. There is a pretty good company that might have a replacement CCD for you, they usually sell them for cheap 15-25 dollars, or a replacement LCD for around 60-100 dollars.
You can find them at www.darntoothysam.com

Hi, My Canon Camcorder MV730i wont focus on images. Can see changes in light. Will play old tapes on VCR mode. Screen appears mostly dark and lines moving across screen. Can you offer any advice?

I contacted Canon service in Sydney who advised this has been a common fault with this model. They will most likely fix it for free.

Thank you for following up my enquiry.

Hi....
Canon parts and repair service is excellent. All the parts of canon powershot is readily available in the market for reasonable price.

For your reference i am giving you the site where they take up these kind of problems.
the website is " http://www.mcvr.com/canon_powershot.htm#LCD ".

Replacing a broken or cracked LCD display screen:
  • Powershot A Series: $90 for most all models (a few dollars less on some)
  • Powershot S Series (S30 - S80, S100-S500, S1-IS, S2-IS): $90 for most models (a few dollars less on some)
  • Powershot SD200, SD300, SD400, SD630: $100 (the LCD for these models is more expensive)
  • All other Powershot SD Series models (including SD700IS and 800IS): $90
  • Powershot G2, G3: $90. Some other G series Powerhot models cost $10-20 more because of the higher parts cost.
The above price list is from the mentioned website.Hope my info is useful.
Bye.

Cannon sd400 power shot

Sounds to me like you have a broken LCD screen. This is unfortunately very common in the SD200, SD300, and SD400 cameras. Because an LCD display is made up of a few sheets of very thin glass, they tend to break rather easil and then the "dye" leaks out, hence your feather pattern.

If you feel up to taking your camera apart, you can purchase a replacement screen on eBay for around $60-$80. If you don't feel up to trying to replace it yourself there are people on eBay who offer repair services for broken LCDs and they typically charge between $80-$100.

Battery

To quote Imaging-Resouce.com: He only got about 100 minutes off his battery. Here's what he said: Slightly better than average battery life for a compact model, but think about buying a second battery anyway. The Canon Powershot SD200 uses a custom rechargeable LiIon battery for power, and uses a custom power adapter, so I couldn't perform my usual direct measurements of its power consumption, but did check how long it would run on a fully charged battery. Like most compact digicams, battery life on the SD200 is a little on the short side, with a worst-case run time (capture mode, with the LCD turned on) of 107 minutes by actual measurement. This is better than many compact and subcompact models, but I'd still strongly recommend purchasing a second battery along with the camera, and keeping it charged as a spare. (Digicam batteries always die at the worst possible times.)
I found this for cheap "Replacement Camera Battery for Canon Powershot SD200 " SKU NB4L103719 $5.42 + s/h at Become.com To increase battery life, turn off unnecessary features like any beep feature, reduce the picture review display time, etc. How many minutes are you getting out of it?

Canon Power Shot SD300 Broken Screen

pretty easy to replace the screen, i suggest buy SD300 from ebay that has lens problem, but it is known for sure that screen is working, you might find one for $20-30, also look for SD200 you might find it cheaper and it uses the same screen as your SD300
