Re: blank screen and no control

It sounds like the flexible printed circuit board that connects the fascia to the main board has partially snapped and needs to be replaced, common fault

My screen comes on until it goes to flip up then it shuts off and I can't do anything with it besides on the actual face buttons itself. But if I keep the screen in its fine and does everything like...

you need to get your ribbon cable replaced. It's a cable that goes from the face to the main unit. they go out a lot. My suggestion is the next radio you buy, make sure it has no moving parts. Try to find the part at

I need to take the back off a navman s70

Im surprised noone has answered this considering navmans track record for producing waste products. I say this,as i have 5 sat useless, due to being 2nd owner,so uncovered by warranty,in some cases, units being less than 1yr old,so i have had a look myself. Ok. Here goes. hold the unit screen towards sky, base facing you. You will see 2 screws, one either side. These hold the side covers in position. Remove these, and if you have strong nails, insert finger nail between side cover and back, start at bottom and pop the bottom lug then the top. It should be held the same on other side of side cover. repeat this on other side of unit. The side covers should now be off and exposing back cover side edges now. Take your finger nail and insert between back cover and base at one corner,it should pop open slightly, repeat on opposite corner. This is from memory. your cover should now lift off. Try the screen ribbon where it joins the board for connection first, there is a tiny black lift up ribbon lock to lift up then make sure ribbon is pushed firmly home, maybe even clean the connectors. The rest is in your hands if this does not work. Good luck.

Remote works, but not the reciever

This one is tough one. It soundslike you have lost the connection between the flip face and the main head unit. I suggest you pull the head unit and get it to a bench for closer investigation. Look for and tears in the connecting wire harness between the Flip control, and the main Unit.

Detachable face

Either the back light lamp is burned out or if it is also a flip face, then you may have a "wire" on the ribbon cable to the flip face that is broken and then you would need to replace the ribbon cable. If it is a flip face then I would strongly suspect that it is the ribbon cable.

Kenwood kdc-322 faceplate problem?

I found my Kenwood KDC322 faceplate doing the same thing(cutting out) I cleaned the contact points on this 'ribbon' behind the faceplate by rubbing the discoloration off with a pencil eraser. The lights have not cut out again.

Lighting problem JVC KD-LH2000

If your unit is a "flip face" design then I would suspect that the flat ribbon cable that goes between the flip face and the main board has lost at least one of the leads and that the cable needs to be replaced. Try for a replacement. Good luck.
