A silver slim ps2 is unable to play certain games

Okay, are you using the original PS2? If you are then it more then likely is the age of the console. The original PS2 console actually can't play some of the games that were made after the PS2 slim was released. If your using the slim than the only thing i can advise is to try using a laser lens cleaner disc and see if that helps :)

I cant get my ps2 slim to play dvds

It may be as simple as to disassemble your PS2 and clean the DVD laser lens with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. Some of the older PS2 models can get out of adjustment from dropping the unit etc...and the laser can be readjusted. Usually left for professionals with the right test equipment. If you do decide to cleane the laser lense make SURE that there is no power to the unit. Good luck!

My son played his Rock Band 2 on my brother's PS2 and it played fine. He then bought his own PS2 and could never get it to play. He has a Tiger Woods game that works fine on both games. Both machines are...

Is tiger woods a blue disc or silver?

The silver discs are DVD and the Blue ones are CD (same with the black PSOne discs). If Tiger woods is a CD then your DVD laser could be out.

You can try to clean the lasers lens and see if that helps, but if you have jsut got that machine you should take that back.

Dodgy ps2!!!

yeah your laser is out of line. to correct it you have to open up your console a bit. Pull the rubber feet off the bottom and unscrew the shell, be really careful when you take the two halves apart because you have wires running between them. Then unscrew the black plastic cover over the drive and underneath you should see a large white gear with a slot for a hex key in the middle. Mark off the start position on this wheel then move it clockwise by one cog, close it up and try a disc. If it doesnt work, move the wheel round one more cog and try again.

Remember different types of disc work differently, the PS2 reads PS1 games easiest, then DVDs, then PS2 silver discs, then PS2 blue discs, so try them in turn.

If you look hard enough on the web there is a detailed explanation of this repair with photos that is worth seeking out

My PS2 Slim plays music, black and blue discs, but doesn't play silver discs nor DVDs.

Is this a new problem or has your PS2 always had this issue? You cannot adjust the laser at all and are likely to damage it if you try, you can however clean the laser lens with a CD/DVD cleaning disk and you'd be surprised how often this resolves disk read issues. Some of these units did have a production fault that prevented them from reading DVD's, if your PS2 has had this fault since new and/or is under 12 months old you could probably have had it repaired/replaced by Sony but by opening it you will have invalidated you're warranty.
