- I recently moved. I installed by whirlpool dishwasher in new home. Dishwasher has 3/8th ID supply line; 3/4 drain line running under floor into basement connecting to existing drain plumbing. I tried running hose low to create a trap in basement and installed vent pipe for drain at drain connection. It appears that some water is getting into dishwasher but not filling. After wash cycle, heating element smells very warm and is turning white. I thought that the washer was possibly syphoning water as it filled through the drain. This is why I installed vent pipe in drain. I am very capable of fixing problem but unable to troubleshoot problem.
