I HALF CHARGED THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT 2O MINUTES, WHICH USUALLY WILL WORK. LATER THAT DAY I TRIED TO USE THE CAMERA AND IT COMES UP IN ANY MODE 'CARD LOCKED'
I've been using this camera with no problems, and all of a sudden I'm getting a "Memory Card locked" message. Does anyone know what to do/ how to unlock the memory card? Thanks. Can't seem to figure out what to do.

The IXUS 400 is called the S400 in some parts of the world. You can download the S400 user guide and more from the manufacturer's web site at
The camera was working fine 5 days ago. Yesterday when I tried to switch it on, I assumed that the battery was flat so I charged it but when fully charged the camera still won't switch on. i Please help!
First of all have you seen the answers you got on a parallel post? -
Some good suggestions there.
Always try to leave the battery charging until fully charged.
Batteries like to be fully charged and then fully drained, it's not 100% causing this specific problem, but it will prolong your battery life.
Certain small brands for memory cards can have compatibility problems with some cameras, including a "card locked" message, when the card isn't locked. The big brands(kingston, sandisk etc) will usually work fine and fast with all cameras. Pretec is also pretty good.
Try using another card, and see if the problem persists.
And don't completely rule out the possibility that you have the card locked... ;]
I thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode.
Looking at my SD memory cards they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?
The battery packs in these units dont have a very long "shelf life" meaning when you charge the battery you need to use it within a few days or it will loose charge. Have you tried a fresh charged battery? They are very power hungry devices and the more advanced they get the more power they need. How old is this unit? how many charges have you put on the pack? it may be time for a second pack. An emergency backup pack good power is key nowdays.
The onlything i can sugest you try is to reset the camera. Im not sure how to do this other then to remove the rechargable battery and the button battery. Its a little round silver disk looking thing. Let it sit over night and see if it resets.
Have you tried snapping a picture from every mode? TV,AV,SCN,Manual and Auto? Do they look washed out on your computer?
Can you take a picture at 640X480 (S) and upload it so i can see what it looks like? Post a link to the image.
