Question about Hotpoint HSM25GFRSA

1 Answer

Noisy compressor It makes an annoying pitched noise that can be heard through out the house, like its humming. When you put your ear to the freezer door on the outside it sounds like a grinding or whining noise going on inside. i think its the compressor starting to reach it's end of the road. This noise started about a week ago and it is 3 years and 2 months old. It doesnt sound like something is loose like the other posts here. Seams like a gear problem or something. Thank you.

Sorry, it is a Hot Point stainless look side by side. And i bet it is the freezer fan. It does howl, and i looked today and tried locate it and its coming from right below the ice maker.

exectly the same. my general electric smartcool ref makes a high pitched loud sound that you can hear almost anywhere in the house. everytime its compressor turns on, most of the time it makes this sound. earlier, i would hear it early in the morning but after about a few months, most of the time when the compressor turns on, and so does the eeking sound. the ref still cools well and it is just the sound that is very annoying

My GE GSL25 SxS makes this high pitched whine. So iritating that I opened up and checked the fan and blade. They look good, but when I leave the freezer door opened for a few minutes the fan speeds up and noise goes away. Don't see how a new board fixes this unless GE has improved board available.

Is a Hotpoint refrig?? Ge (who makes hotpoint) is having trouble with the freezer fan howling. Check out posts on Ge SxS PSS models. Some say its the main board, i disagree.

ok so it seems like weve pinpointed it. I recommend changing the fan it has resolved several complaints in the field for me. However there are quite a few posts that a new main computer will reslove the howling also. The computer is easier to change than the fan motor, but the fan motor is cheaper. I wish i had more info than I do but GE gives us very little engineering feedback.

My new black glass double door fridge and freezer is so noisy it actually wakes me up.Please help.Les

Les,
The nature of the noise can tell you a lot. Is it a smooth compressor sound that is excessively loud? Is it metallic like a fan blade might make if it is hitting something? A squeal like a failing bearing might make? Is it constant? Intermittent? Has it always been there?
I assume the fridge, other than noisy, operates correctly and normally.
You can add acoustic foam to reduce the noise (Find "Black Hole" acoustic absorbing foam or similar). If doing this, you cannot impede the airflow to the heat ex-changers or the compressor motor, or you could drastically shorten the life of your appliance.
You should also try and divine where exactly the noise is coming from. Lacking a stethoscope, a 1/4 " wooden dowel, placed against various areas on one end, and the other on the little skin flap of your ear, will safely telegraph mechanical vibration to your ear, allowing you to localize problems. Once you know exactly where the sound is coming from, it may be easier to correct the noise.

Why does my new Frigidaire FFHT1826 make a high pitch noise

Thank you for your post, friend!

Based off the information you have provided it sounds like you are hearing the compressor come on. In the newer, high-efficiency compressors they operate much faster than the older models and some may put out a high pitched hum or pulsating noise. I hope this helps. -Matt

Why would a brand new fridge make strange noises already?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFSS2614QS, is making a strange humming noise. Your new, high-efficiency refrigerator may introduce unfamiliar sounds. These sounds normally indicate your refrigerator is operating correctly. Some surfaces on floors, walls, and kitchen cabinets may make these sounds more noticeable. This could possibly be the compressor that you are hearing. Modern, high-efficiency compressors run much faster than in the past. The compressor may have a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Humming noise in house

Might be a noisy draft inducer motor. Try backing out the bolts and repositioning it is what I would try. Or pay a dude $400 for a new one.

My Hotpoint makes a high pitched humming noise all the time.

Hi,

This noise is most likely coming from the evaporator fan motor that is located behind the panel just below the ice maker. There is an air duct that the fan blows through to cool the ice maker that is why the sound is heard in the ice maker area more.

The noise does not hurt anything but the motor can be replaced if it gets too annoying, it is a fairly common complaint. The part number for the motor is WR60X10185 and runs about $60.00. It is a bit challenging to get to but can be done with a bit of patience by removing everything in the freezer and taking the back panel off the inside of the freezer.
