You can not use motorola W230 as a modem.. I have confirmed from the manufacturers.

My battle with moto. phns. lasted aprox.2 months and 300+$ .main factor ur. carrier its that easy.ask! I purchased the software +2 diff. phones .There is no slick way.good luck

First you need to run the USB charging driver to the system.
You can download the USB charging driver from Motorola website.

Once you run the driver, better you restart the system.
Now you connect your mobile to the system.
Make sure that, you should not connect your mobile while screensaver is running.
Your mobile screen should be on. Don't go to your menu.
Now when you connect the USB cable, it will ask you that
connect mobile as a storage device?
select Yes.
Now it will be connected.

Even if it is not connected. Unplug the USB cable.
Switch off and switch on the mobile and connect it.
Definitely it will connect.

motorola w230 is the cheapest mp3 phone ever made.
to connect it with PC we can only use it as a removable disk -or we can say as- same as an USB FLASH DISK ,in other way we can't use it as a modem.
because from my experience i think w230 is not design to be a modem.
and how to entry the mp3 file is by connect it to PC and use the phone as disk storage by clicking YES option every time it connect. for windows user use windows explorer or click my computer icon on the desktop then explore the computer & you'll find your phone as "removable disk" item. you'll find 3 folder ; music, picture, and system.
copy your mp3 and paste it to the folder "music" on the w230 "removable disk".
although can't connect to a PC/laptop we can still use the internet through the phone with a minimal facility.

because the driver of Motorola w230 is not for modem but for charging driver. the driver recommended for razor, v3. for further information open .inf on driver Motorola w230. so you cannot connect to internet with PC trough Motorola w230 modem.

micro sd card has a built in driver on its own, all you have to do is to unlock your phone and connect the cable to your phone and your pc.. press "yes" on your phone questioning you "connect as a storage device" or something like that.. then you can start file transfer from pc to phone and vice versa..

I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. before installing this driver uninstall all motorolla driver. and install only charging driver.
after then install the driver file named 'moto_w230_gprs.inf' (available on internet) on same port on which charging driver is installed yhen write the code" AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","INTERNET" in extra initialization string on modem. (internet is access point network) use another if u have other networks

set the baud rate of ur modem 230kbps
write the user name andf password
and fone number '+cgdata' without quotes and then try
i have cheked on telenor pakistan its working fine

I want to connect motorola w230 mobile to internet by using usb.so how can i connect and from where i can get software(Modem driver) for that.

I own MotoYuva W230 and am also struggling to do the same.
The W230 seems to have builtin modem.
First of all we need to install the drivers from www.motorola.com/support/w230 and download the file from link USB modem drivers. Install it and it will create a virtual COM port for the modem.
Open HyperTerminal and try to connect to the port it. You can check the actual port number from "device manager" on WinXP.
Once you connect it will say "AT command Interpreter ready"
Here you can give commands
at+cgatt
OK
at+cgact
OK
at+cgdata
OK
after last command if your GPRS is active, the icon on topline will change to connected.
This hints to presence of GPRS modem but I am still not able to connect using my phone.
Please update anyone can indicate way forward.
