We have the same exact problem.  Nice camera, hate to give up on it.

Camera turns on, lens extends then retracts and camera turns off. All in about 2 seconds.

Identical problem. Turns on, zooms then turns off, all in about 3 seconds. Still under warranty. Do I take back to Wal-Mart or send to repair center?

when i turn it on the lense comes out and it's on for about 3 seconds, then it turns off and the lense doesn't retract back.

I'm looking for a solution to this too. The repair is going to cost more than the camera did. SUCKS!!!

Lens error 0x0022

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

I have a casio digital camera qv-r52 3x optical zoom when I turn power button on it will not stay on the lens retracts but I can view the pic's on the dish

Katie, Joe alerted me to your problem. The symptoms that you're experiencing suggest that you're experiencing a lens error. Lens errors are fairly common, but there are many causes. Some causes include poor or drained batteries. Or sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. Camera will power on but lens will not retract and cannot take photos

Most of the lens issues due to mechanical problem. some of the caused are
drop the camera. Hard shake like keeping the Camera in the hand and jump through steps Moisture condensation Insufficient battery..
If you feel that the issue is not with the above reason. Remove the battery, reinsert after 2 minutes to perform a power reset and check the operation.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
Thanks for understanding

My pentax option A10 turned black on the screen and won't open

Since the screen went black BEFORE the lens retracted, it makes me think this is a main board problem. The only other possibility is that it is the lens assembly, but since it went black BEFORE the lens retracted, I don't think that is it. I can replace the main board for $40, or you can send it to pentax in Arizona, and they will do it for about $90.
The main board is NOT something that I would suggest anyone try to replace as a DIY project. There are too many small screws, and delicate connections to deal with.
You can contact me at: mrfixitmark at comast dot net

If you just want to sell the camera as-is, I also buy all pentax a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras, in any condition.

Lens won't retract

You could try to gently pull the lens straight. If it's leaning to the right then pull the lens to the left. Don't use brute force but it's possible to realign the lens this way. If it works you'll hear a click and the lens will look straight. Switch on and see if it retracts. I'd only use this as a last resort because you can cause additional damage if it's overdone. It has sood success rate also

Optio s5i Lens Stuck Problem

You can try removing the battery and leaving out overnight then putting it back and charging it up then try the power. This has worked for some people but not all.
