Connecting Yamaha piano (YDP-131) to imac g5

I'm having trouble getting my Yamaha piano to connect to my imac.
I bought a USB-Midi cable (Mistar Midilink) to connect the two. It didn't seem to be working so a friend suggested installing this as cable didn't come with any software/driver/instructions
I'm trying to use Garage Band and am still unable to record from the piano onto the mac.
When i go into system preferences, the mac recognises there is a yamaha there, but a pop up says it's not connected.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you

I dont use garage band but You could try just plugging a regular plug jack from aux out to your computer with a smaller jack adapter into your mic input. When you go to record a track it should pick it up-the equalizer should show movement when striking keys. Remember most music software requires you to select the option to play and hear the sound simultaneously.

You want to go into your AUDIO/MIDI set up in OS X. Selet the unit. YOu have a MAC so most itmes dont needs drivers, its one of the many great things that separate that operating systems from say windows. Also your yamaha may be CLASS COMPLIANT, which means plug and play no matter what computer you are using.

What you should do is make sure the keyboard is set to send on the same channel as garageband is set to receive.

Keep me posted.

Hi Kim,
Yikes, an Android phone on an iMac G5...
It is probably an upgrade or an update that was not compatible with the G5 Processor... That machine is going on 10 years old now...

Try connecting it to another computer, a friends or at work, to see of it connects properly... if so, it's end of the line for G5's ;-(

If you still have the installation disks, try doing a reformat hoping its a driver error. But, sounds to me it may be something wrong with your panel. Take it in the genius bar to get it looked at.

G5 keeps powering up for a few mins then switches off?

Thank you for contacting Fixya Support, I am glad to assist.

There are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot this issue:

Try a PMU Reset:
* Turn of your iMac if it is already turned off
* Disconnect all connections to the iMac except the power cord
* Now disconnect the power cord for approximately 20 seconds
* Reconnect just the power cable the keyboard, mouse and power cord, and then power your iMac G5 up.

* Check to see if the iMac boots up normally without power interruption.

* If the iMac G5 shuts off again, try these steps, another recommendation would be to remove all connections including the power cord, and lay the iMac G5 on soft cloth face down and with a philips screwdriver, remove the plate on the bottom of the iMac G5 where your RAM memory is located.
Before removing the RAM however, touch your hand on the metal boot to discharge any static current you carry for approximately 5 seconds.

Now remove each RAM card and then reseat (re-install) each card.

Restore the RAM card cover with your Philips screwdriver, reconnect your power cable, keyboard an
d mouse and turn on your iMac G5.

See if this second procedure helps if the first procedure does not work.

Let me know if this helps.

I have an iMac G5 2Ghz that when it start up you can only see video for a few seconds. I connected an external monitor and my iMac works fine but with its on LCD there is no video. I check the logic board...

The iMac G5 and iMac G5 (Ambient Light Sensor) computers have a video out port located on the back of the computer, which will mirror video. Video mirroring means you can see the same image that is on the iMac G5's flat-panel display on an external monitor, television, or projector.
Using the video out port, you can mirror video with a compatible VGA display using the Apple VGA Display Adapter.
You can also use the video mirroring feature with a television or projector that has S-video or composite video connectors when you use the Apple Video Adapter.
Both the Apple VGA Display Adapter (M8639G/A) and the Apple Video Adapter (M9109G/A) are available separately, and are needed if you want to use your iMac with a VGA monitor cable, S-video cable, or composite video cable.
The video mirroring feature is "plug and play". Simply connect a VGA display, television, or projector to the appropriate adapter (see above), then connect the adapter to the video out port located on the back of the computer.
When you connect the adapter to the computer, the screen may refresh momentarily as the computer prepares itself for the new video output. The computer tries to match the resolution of the built-in and external display. If there is no match, the computer changes both screen resolutions and may black out areas on the built-in display in order to match the capabilities of the external display.
Important: To ensure that your iMac G5 automatically detects the external display or projector, be sure you plug the adapter into the external display or projector before you plug it into the iMac G5.
You can switch resolutions and frequencies for both the iMac G5 flat-panel display and the external display, television, or projector using Displays preferences.
Want to watch a DVD movie disc on a television that's connected to your iMac G5? Select a 720 x 480 NTSC (in the United States) or 720 x 576 PAL (in Europe and other regions) resolution in Displays preferences.
Tip: Because of the display limitations of most televisions, the images displayed on a television screen are usually not as high quality as those on the built-in display or an external monitor.

Good Luck

Hello, Sorry to hear you are having troubles,
Is this a 17” iMac G5, if it is, and I think it is, unfortunately, this iMac model was generation 1 of the all in one flat screen design and it's a bit of a Lemon... The hard Drive overheats the video card and the power supply. With time, these 2 elements burn out.
What you have sounds like the power supply. it's a $300 repair, but, it might not be a good investment for you, the new power supply won't last much more than the first one and your video chip won't last much longer....
Best put the money and put it towards a new machine.
Sorry bout that.

Apple mac mini/Mistar Midilink

When I first used it I had the same problem. But if you make sure the midilink OUT is connected to your keyboard IN and the IN to the OUT it might well work - mine did! It worked a treat in garageband. I am having problems now when the mac tells me that the usb device i.e. the link is taking too much power and is disconnecting it! oh well...
