Connecting Yamaha piano (YDP-131) to imac g5

Hello
I'm having trouble getting my Yamaha piano to connect to my imac.
I bought a USB-Midi cable (Mistar Midilink) to connect the two. It didn't seem to be working so a friend suggested installing this as cable didn't come with any software/driver/instructions  http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/usb_midi/
I'm trying to use Garage Band and am still unable to record from the piano onto the mac.
When i go into system preferences, the mac recognises there is a yamaha there, but a pop up says it's not connected.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thank you
Ruth

I dont use garage band but You could try just plugging a regular plug jack from aux out to your computer with a smaller jack adapter into your mic input. When you go to record a track it should pick it up-the equalizer should show movement when striking keys. Remember most music software requires you to select the option to play and hear the sound simultaneously.

You want to go into your AUDIO/MIDI set up in OS X. Selet the unit. YOu have a MAC so most itmes dont needs drivers, its one of the many great things that separate that operating systems from say windows. Also your yamaha may be CLASS COMPLIANT, which means plug and play no matter what computer you are using.

What you should do is make sure the keyboard is set to send on the same channel as garageband is set to receive.

Keep me posted.

Midi-USB cable providing wrong data (notes) to pc? I have a Yamaha YPT 220 / PSR E223 keyboard, and a "generic midi usb" cable wich is actually an Agptek midi usb like cable, (Treble cleff logo ;) ). My...

Make sure that you have the correct midi mapping for your Yamaha. There should have been a software program, called a mid map editor (MME), that came with your keyboard. If you are unfamiliar with this, it is used for changing the values that are sent through the midi cable into your computer (for example, you can change the C0 to be C#0, or any other value, including a numeric value instead of a tonal value). If you bought it used there may have been values changed on midi-trigger presets, which would cause this. If you do have the program, use it to at least investigate that all of the values are in the right places. Often times when someone who is unfamiliar with an MME installs it they open it to see what it is. They change things (not realizing they have done that) and then can't figure out why there is a problem.
Also, make sure your midi cable has the same connections as your keyboard. Some brands make very slight variations to avoid patent issues that may make some cables and instruments incompatible. I have two cables that work fine with certain midi controllers, but when switched they both fail. It's good to make sure the plug ports are clean of dust/dirt, too.
If you are familiar with these problems and they are not yours, you may need to get a different cable. Try to borrow one from a friend to see if the cable is the problem before you buy one. If that still doesn't fix it you may have an internal software or hardware issue. Good luck! I hope I could help.

I have a casio privia px-130, and I'm trying to use it as a MIDI on FL Studio, but it won't show up in FL Studio. Is there a driver that I have to download?

Make sure you follow the steps of the procedure below exactly. Connecting incorrectly can make data
send and receive impossible.
1.
Turn off the digital piano and then start up
your computer.
• Do not start up the music software on your computer
yet

3.
Turn on the digital piano.
• If this is the first time yo
u are connecting the digital
piano to your computer, the driver software required
to send and receive data will be installed on your
computer automatically.
4.
Start up your computer's music software.
5.
Configure the music software settings to
select one of the following as the MIDI device.
CASIO USB-MIDI

I Need a power board for a Yamaha YDP-121 digital piano

Is the board missing? If not, just repair the board. Here is link to manual close to your unit:
http://elektrotanya.com/yamaha_ydp-131_131c_sm.pdf/download.html
Scroll down to near bottom and wait for "download your manual" in lower right corner. Click to download. This is the 131 model but should be VERY similar to your unit.

My yamaha ydp-160 sounds like my pedal is stuck down. All keys are sustaining all notes. Is there an easy fix?

On SOME Yamaha pianos, there is an electrolytic capacitor 1mfd/50v that becomes leaky and causes this. On those with the particular main board the capcitor is at location C94. On other pianos there are other caps that bypass the wire from the pedals that are ceramic. Likely one of these has shorted. There is also a possibility that the pedal contact has shorted. Test for this by unplugging the pedal cable. If it still sustains, then problem is internal. Unless you are adept at electronics this is NOT a DIY repair.

Need help connecting Korg C-303 (Concert Piano) and Korg Symphony Model O3 (Orchestra Module). Have no documentation for the Symphony module.

Assuming the C-303 has a MIDI out, connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI output of the C-303 to the MIDI input of the symphony module.

Connect two audio cables (mono 1/4 inch) from the symphony module to a suitable audio amplification system OR possibly into auxilary audio input jacks of the C-303, if they exist.

I have a Symphony module but not the piano you have and I have mine connected to a Yamaha organ.

Not communicating...

It would help a lot if you had another Midi device to try. Then you could narrow down the problem.

Another thing to try is to download some simple piece of Midi software such as Bome's Mouse keyboard (free 30-day evaluation) and see if you can get that to work (using your mouse on the screen keyboard to trigger notes on your MIDI keyboard). You may get further clues by trying that.
