Westinghouse LTV-32w4 HDC - adjustment buttons unresponsive, volume drop, etc.

Hi, I just bought two Westinghouse LTV-32w4 HDC flat panel LCD tvs. I set them up. One works perfectly. The other:
Powered on okay. After about 60 seconds, the remote keys stop working. Any keys pressed - a warning appears on screen - invalid input key. Note however, it will play on the channel that it is on, good volume, good picture. Just can't change anything. I go to the TV itself, try the response from any of them. Even won't power off. (Same with remote). Now, about two - four minutes later, the volume automatically powers down to 0. So, with no way to power off, remote or TV, I unplug. I then replug after 30 seconds. I can use the remote. No problem. I ensure the auto scanned channels appear (before loss of remote previously). They are working fine. For about one minute...then the problem recycles.. first the remote becomes useless (all keys). I can't change the channel. I can't power off (without unplugging), and after about five minutes, the volume drops to zero. (The picture remains). This has been this way since out of the box.

Also, I tried swapping remotes, since I bought identical sets. The remote works fine on the other good tv, and the good tv's remote does not have any positive effect on the defective tv. Can I hand carry the defective set to a local Service center?

Re: Westinghouse LTV-32w4 HDC - adjustment buttons...

Plug your cable connection to a vcr "in" then run a seperate cable cord from the vcr "out" to your television (which should be on channel 3 or 4) depending on your vcr setting and use the vcr to control the channel so when your westinghouse freezes and becomes unresponsive you could still change the channel and so on through your vcr and tv acts like a monitor works for me. N.B be sure to set the volume and so on before it freezes which could be like a 1min window from turning your tv on

Ltv 32w3 coax disabled

Google the model number with "manual" to try to locate the owner manual which if the set has such a feature (not likely) will tell how to unlock it.

My guess is set has a bad tuner etc and someone just wanted to dump it on you.

Westinghouse LTV-32w4 HDC widescreen DVD Combo

Hi Mouse999. From reading a bit, it seems that there's no region free hacks for the built in dvd player in that specific model. A solution for you, would be to purchase a standalone dvd player, one that is region free or one that has a region free hack available, and to connect it to that tv. If you're in europe and your tv is pal, you also need to have a dvd player that will read both Pal and NTSC video dvd's ! If that doesn't help, please be more specific, i'll be glad to help. Thanks, cheebster.

Our TV/DVD player (LTV-32w4 HDC) is just out of the 4 year extended warranty we bought. The TV works fine, but the DVD player will not start up. When a disc is inserted, it seems to be trying to start...

According to your complaint post, the fult is due to its DVD mechanism itself. It will be best to replace the DVD tray mechanism [ plastic made one]. You can bought it from most of the electronic spare part shops at your town. But the model fitted with Westinghouse will be very difficult to get. Anyway try to get it. The fault is with loading tray mechanism itself. OK.

How to remove dvd drive for Westinghouse LTV-32w4 HDC 32.02 in. HDTV LCD TV/DVD Combo
First you would have to get a service manual, this shows you all you need to know about the unit. Without it, it is very difficult to even remove the case. but once inside, it is basically a simple task, to find the drive, remove the fastenings, and the Cable, obtain an EXACT replacement HDD, and reverse the procedure, it may pay to format the HDD first, FAT32, I believe, although your manual will be more specific.
