Moved to a new house now the oven won't work

Hi there,

We just moved to a new house and when we plugged the oven in the digital display came on as per normal but our oven and elements do not work. We have tried replacing the fuses so that isn't the problem. I remember having this problem a couple of years ago when we moved the last time but cant remember how we fixed it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Both the rear circular element and recirculation fan do not work.

Hi, it sounds like both the element and the fan have blown together, though this is unusual. If you can access the element quite easily I would look to see if there is a small hole in the side of the element.
It could be that there are some internal fuses somewhere in the oven housing, though the likelyhood is that you would need to remove the back off the oven, which normally means removing the whole thing from the housing.
If you don't feel confident in checking this I would advise asking a local electrician to take a look for you. try to find one that don't make a callout charge, most of the appliance repair companies do charge around £75 just to tell you that you have a problem, this normally covers up to 30 minutes of labour, after that you could pay anything up to £75/hour, these guys no how to charge and hit your pocket.
Hope this helps

I have a hotpoint ew91 oven that stopped working after tripping house fuse. after resetting fuse fan works but no heat.

It is most likely that the oven heating element has failed which caused the house fuse to trip.

The replace the heating element will mean taking the back off the oven and removing the old heat element by undoing the fixing screws and the electrical connectors( normally this surrounds the fan assembly).

Fitting the new heat element should then be straight forward.

Remember to disconnect the power to the oven before removing the back.

GE free-standing electric range Pre-heat oven temp is about 50 degrees less than what is set (i.e. set digital display to 400 and over only reaches about 350). Is there an adjustment that can be made to...

We have a new GE Range and the signal beeps at about 100 degrees below the temp which we have set . The dealer replaced the sensor and the control circuit, but there was no change.
A service tech from GE came to our house and explained that the new ovens have a bottom heating element which is covered and therefore heats the lower part of the oven more slowly; but the exposed upper element heats more rapidly and the sensor is located near the upper element. We were advised to wait for about 15-20 minutes after the beep before placing the food in the oven. Judging from the number of comments found online, this seems to be a feature of newer ranges.

Hi right my indesit 29229 fan oven is not working it blow the power in the house now the top oven is work but the bottom one wont heat up the fans working and thats it do you think its the element thats...

To blow the house trips it must be the element

Thermostats do not normally go short circuit.

The elements can be replaced quite easliy and cheaply

I would check that the fan is turning freely before you buy the element

After a "pop" - the oven no longer works

You should have thrown the breaker before moving the oven. The element likely shorted and blew the breaker. make sure the breaker is off. replace the element and plug it back in and reset the breaker.

I have a 3U600W oven purchased 13/07/04 in the last 5months i have had to replace small element, grill element and now the large element. Is this normal for such a young oven with little use?? Im not happy...

I'm afraid this is quite normal- I have been repairing Simpson ovens for a long time, and unfortunately quality is not what it used to be (goes for most manufacturers-not just Simpson!!). Elements are not a moving part and don't "wear out" as such, how long they last depends on manufacturing quality and a bit of luck. An element in your oven is basically the same as a light bulb in your house- some last for a long time, others seem to never need changing. Look out- the element controller will need changing next- mark my words!!

Yeah just turn the left hand knob to the one setting which isn't a cooking function - I think it looks a bit like a dash - and then power up as normal on the right hand knob.
It happpened to me but you get the hang of it and it's not a fault.
