Although the sounds of this problem is more of a software issue than hardware, one of several things could be the cause ... faulty RAM (freezing issues), battery or mobo (power supply issues), corrupted Vista update installs (no surprise there), faulty startup programs, infections in the system ... I suggest trying these options: 1) run a detailed hardware scan to find any faulty hardware. 2) turn off laptop, take battery and AC adapter out, hold the power button for 10-30 sec then plug everything back in. 3) run a "chkdsk /r c:" on the command prompt using any Vista disc repair mode to find and fix possible corrupted O/S files then go to restore mode and load a time and date before the incident happened. 4) see if you can get into safe mode without the blank screen issue, go to run and type "msconfig", go to "startup" tab and turn off any programs that looks out of place, then go to "services", click on "hide all ms services" and disable services that looks out of place. 5) scan for infections. If you have Norton or McAfee, remove it ... and if you remove it ... be sure to use their removal tools located on there respective website. They usually leave residual files behind after removal using conventional means (ie Add/Remove programs) If none of these help ... backup your stuff and do a recovery!
You need to repair your windows vista OS. this may the cause of a virus.
To repair, just insert your Windows Vista CD in cd rom then restart. Use the "Repair" option. Just follow the instruction in the screen.
