Cartridge is basically a hard disk, with several platters, contained in a hard, plastic case. The cartridge contains neither the heads nor the motor for spinning the disk; both of these items are in the drive unit.

Eject lto5

in the manual should be something like this:

Manually Removing a Tape Cartridge
If problem-determination procedures identify the tape drive as the source of the problem and you are unable to eject the tape cartridge using the eject button, reset the drive to recover the cartridge:
Press and hold the eject button for 10 seconds, then release.
The status light turns amber and the drive starts through its hardware test process.
When the hardware test completes, the status light turns green.
If a cartridge is in the drive the status light flashes green until the cartridge is rewound.
The status light turns solid green when the rewind is complete and the tape drive is ready.

Although it is from an older LTO version, it must work on the newer versions too.

I also did remove tapes, if nothing worked, but it is to much to tell and show here.
NOTE: Allow at least 10 minutes for the rewind process to complete.

Anytime I try to backup or copy a 33GB data file on a 40GB or 72GB Data cartridge, it requests for more data cartridge even after formatting the data cartridge prior to starting the process. Sometimes, the...

Because the DAT72 can copy 72GB with 2:1 compressed, and it's native capability is 36GB in the most. So you can try to copy less than 30GB data to it or try to enable the drive's compress mode.

Tape cartridge seems stuck in the my tandberg LTO2 HH external to remove it?

I had the same issue with my drive. I presume that you have tried holding down the eject button while powering on the drive. If you have done this and it didn't work, I have a PDF from Dell that describes how to manually remove a stuck tape from this drive. I would not recommend it for anyone who is not very technical. It is a little complicated. If you would like a copy of it, you can send me an email at my email. It is tm_reply at Since the PDF does not have the directions to re-assemble the drive, you need to pay close attention to the way things are while taking it apart.

If you are not comfortable sending me an email, you can go to Dell's support an do an online chat. Ask them for the doc. That is where I got it. He emailed it to me so that is why I don't have a link.

I do have a link for the full height drive. it is -

Good luck!

P.S. If someone can tell me how to post a file here, I would be happy to do so.

These drives are a right pain in the neck!

There is no easy way for an end user to remove the tapes and they are a terrible drive (certainly unless you are using a unix/linux server with all data on this server and not on another networked machine)

My suggestion would be to buy a new drive/library!

Failing that try sending the drive to who should be able to help - but these Mammoth drives are so awful they almost sent exabyte bust so i wouldnt invest too much money in keeping it going. Better to upgrade to an HP LTO4 desktop and cut your losses - Again these guys should be able to help with an upgrade

No Compatible media found in HP Tape Drive

Try a brand new tape fresh out the wrapper.

If that doesnt work make sure you are using the right drive in your backup software!

It sounds like a message often seen in windows backup where you have selected the wrong tape drive from the list and it just tells you "No compatible media found" when actually the drive listed isnt even connected to your system still
