Using Camcorders in Sub-Zero temperatures

Hi There,

Can you tell me if it is ok to use my camcorder/ camera in sub zero temperatures? Also are there any tips you can give me to stop my equipment from shattering due to the cold?

Re: Using Camcorders in Sub-Zero temperatures

For operating temperature, check with the manufacturer's specs, usually near the end of the fact-filled manual. Even if it says 0-40 degrees, Most units will run OK below zero, but may have condensation problems when brought into a warm room.

Which of your equipment has shattered when cold? Did you drop it? Attach a wrist strap and use it or run a shoulder strap around your neck to keep your equipment from shattering due to the drop. ;-)

Running the camcorder continuously

Those camcorders are not intended to be surveillance cameras. There are however, steps you can take to ensure maximum longevity. * Keep the unit dry (avoid rain, inclement weather, etc.) * Ventilate the unit, i.e. make sure there is plenty of free air around the unit for cooling. * Shield from direct sunlight if possible * Avoid extremes of temperature and humidity.
