Question about RCA TruFlat 27F520T 27" TV
I have my durabrand vcr hooked up through my onkio receiver to my RCA TruFlat hdtv...and i can get sound through the onkio of the vhs..but not an image on the screen. an image does show up, however, when the vhs is stopped. the blue background and the stop icon is shown on the tv..though when i hit play, the picture sputters for a few seconds, and eventually the tv goes to its bright blue in the way it does when it doesnt receive a signal
any help would be greatly appreciated
The video output of the onkyo is usually called MONITOR, and will usually display inputs from video1/2/3/4, etc, that are ANALOG--which is what your vcr is pushing out. Are you connecting that vcr via coax to the TV also? almost sounds like you're using channel3/4 (modulated) output over coax to connect to the tuner/antenna input on the tv and you've got the wrong channel on the tuner entered--try pressing 03 or 04 on the remote to change tv channels. Otherwise, if you've got the VCR only connecting to Onkyo, and then the onkyo's MONITOR port (svid or rca yellow) connecting to INPUT Video on the TV, be sure you've got the right input selected. NOTE: Agreed, the video degredation on the passthrough/RCA/SVID is noticeable--usually much dimmer than a straight connection. But, when you've got lotsa of rca/svid based devices and want to switch easily, that Onkyo does an OK job--you can get used to it. If it really does degrade enough to provide unuseable signal, sounds like a you've got multiple inputs on the Onkyo that are simultaneously outputting to the MONITOR jack (svid/RCA and component) and the onkyo is having trouble filtering or selecting the strongest signal.

Don't pass the video sample through the Onkio.. Use a second single RCA patch cord to go from vcr to TV... Use the same yellow out on the vcr that you're using now and send it directly to the yellow video input you're using on the TV..
Hope that's clear - I'm getting tired...
