Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Philips 60 inch rear projection model number 60PP920217F

Probally a simple solution to this but I have had this rear projection for 5 years and worked great until the other day. Now the picture is starting to separate around the top and bottom and look almost like it is displaying the picture on a curve, thinner in the middle and wider on the edges. Also words and simple images like lines,Etc. seem to duplicate its self in the color of red and green. Please help! Thanks ! Sounds like the convergence IC but how do I fix it? And Where is it?

I can't find anything about convergence adjustments in my manual, and I can't find it on the tv menu either. I know it's there, I've done it before. HELP! It's almost game time!!!

What you have there is a PTV835 chassis and the convergence amps are two STK392-110 Sanyo built Ics mounted on a large aluminum heatsink on the signal board... It could very well be the amps and it could also be the protect fuse 1008 (2a 250v), fuse 1007 (1a 250v) and a 1a mylar cap at location 2055, all of those are located on the upright digital convergence board.
This is not an easy job in this particular unit and not one that I could write-out in a step-by-step set of instructions, too many varibles. The short version would be to strongly suggest that you take this to a qualified shop and have them do it..
I would also suggest that you ask them to replace the amps with the STK392-150's for greater reliability. In fact you could purchase them yourself from acme in Florida and save a few bucks. Also, take the unit to them don't pay the pickup delivery and you'll save a little and always get a written estimate first before any work is done...
Hope this helps!
PS: A job like this in my shop is approximately 425 - 500 dollars plus tax including parts.
