Microsoft lifecam cinema won't work with windows xp, downloaded updates still no joy any solutions to why this kit wont work? Keeps coming up send error report. When opening the camera via my computer...

I have the exact same Camera....... and I have gotten it to work on Windows XP just fine.....
here are a few troubleshooting tips to help you figure out if its just settings
1: go to another application that can use a webcam (ie: MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Facebook) and see if the Cam will work.
2: try downloading alternate software to manage your webcam ( http://www.manycam.com/)
if the above two options dont work with the webcam.. it may be the cam itself.

I have a dell laptop with a built in webcam and it works fine however when i come to use it with msn messenger then it will not let the contact i'm chatting with see me or let me see them. hope you can...

You need to setup you MSN Messenger to control your camera. Download the latest version (MSN Messenger) first and install it. Sometimes older versions will not work with a cam. Also, download another messenger like Yahoo, and try that as well.

I got my logitech web came plugd in it works fine bt 4 some reson we i go on mesenger it sais i dont have a web came

Once you have your webcam working you need to configure it to the chat program
Windows Live Messenger
Test your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN
Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly.
The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted.
Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software.
If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.

Open MSN
Click 'Open Menu'
From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup'
Set your speakers
Click 'Test' - if OK, move on.
Set your mic as default
Use the slider to set volume and test.
Click 'Next'
This takes you to the video setup
Your webcam should be broadcasting - (if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN)
Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture.
Click 'Finish'

Yahoo Messenger
Plug in your webcam and visit this site - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.
Do not proceed if the camera fails to work here, but concentrate on your webcam software / drivers

http://www.testmycam.com/

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to Yahoo Messenger 10.

COMPATIBILITY WITH YAHOO MESSENGER

You MUST use Internet Explorer to visit this page, with your webcam plugged in, to check compatibility and automatically download the latest webcam control. Make sure your webcam broadcasts on this page before moving on

CONFIGURE SOFTWARE

Of all the chat programs, Yahoo is the most painful software to set up but if you follow these instructions you should be ok.

INTERNET CONNECTION
Webcam connected
Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

TESTING
> Messenger > My webcam - the warning panel will launch, click 'OK' and your webcam will start. You should be rewarded at this stage with your happy smiling face.

SET WEBCAM DEFAULT
With webcam still running > Messenger > Preferences > Webcam Broadcast > Camera Source - set your webcam as default using dropbox. > Camera Settings - adjust settings to suit. > Apply > OK
Take a note of any additional software, if you have multiple choice for Camera Source, you may wish to uninstall any redundant webcam software later to prevent conflicts

AUDIO
Open Video and Voice - run through your default equipment and make a test call - click OK

PERMISSION OPTIONS
> Messenger > Preferences > Webcam - make your default equipment selections and who you will allow to view you > Apply > OK

IN USE
When you are both on line and wish to show your webcam > Actions > 'Invite to view my webcam'.
Messenger 10:- > Actions > More Actions > invite to view my webcam. This will launch an invitation on your contacts screen when they 'Accept' your webcam broadcast will start- There can be considerable time lag ( +1 minute) before they see you, so don't be too impatient ( You can check the status on the bottom left of your webcam panel. You can 'drag and drop' the frame to a convenient location by grabbing the top border.

Your contacts may need to configure their connection the same as INTERNET CONNECTION above (Ignoring webcam connected) if they get a "webcam not connected" message

Sometimes you may have to broadcast the 'small image' option from the 'Webcam' menu on the top of your image frames. This happens when one of you is down on resources -its like sending a large photo by email - its quicker if you cut the size down
you can zoom up to 200% from the same menu when the webcam picture comes through

Use the 'Always on top' option from the 'webcam' menu - or your image will disappear when you type a message

Dell webcam manager working with msn messenger?

if you have the webcam center opened along with with msn then it wont work on either one of them.
you can try these steps tp check if it works for you or not.

1)look for the web cam center system tray icon and right click on it if its there and select exit

and as u said u cant see you self in web cam console --- in webcam console you can only see your self under the doodling tab and only of your webcam is working at that i.e

either you have the webcam center opened or any other messenger or software which turns on your cam then only ull be able to view your cam in webcam console alongside.

My webcam works on msn messenger but not yahoo messenger. It is a HP webcam. Is there a compatibility issue? Should I change my webcam?

No there is no compatibility issue. But you cannot use cams simultaneously on 2 messenger. Make sure that when you using it in Yahoo messenger than msn is totally shut off. Try this it should help you.

If my advice helps you, than please feel free to rate me.

Thanks

Power supply possibly?

the camera will not power up without a program to access the camera.  Remember, you need to install the drivers first, and then hook up the cam.  Try yahoo messenger or msn to see if it works.

Gmail does not support video as far as I know. To chat with your friend over Yahoo you need to download the Yahoo Instant Messenger software. Others use the Microsoft Live Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger. Skype is another popular Instand Messenger program.
