Phone doesn't turn on past welcome screen(Motorola W490)

Unfortunately it's "PROBABLY" time for a new phone.
I had a W490 as well as a friend of mine that did the very same thing.
For us it was the beggining of the end for an otherwise great phone.

firstly you require the following on your system:-

• 400MHz or higher processor speed
• 256MB RAM or higher
• Approximately 250MB of available hard disk space
• Available USB port (USB 1.1 or higher)
• Internet connectivity (Internet Explorer)
• Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) or Windows Vista (either 32-bit or 64-bit) (Service Pack 1) or Windows 7 (either 32-bit or 64-bit)

NOTE:
During the software update, all third-party media, including but not limited to, music, pictures, ring tones, and screen savers, will be deleted. You will need to reload all third-party media after the software update. Third party applications and some custom settings CANNOT be automatically restored after the device has been updated. Please note that during the update, you will have the opportunity to save your personal data.

Please follow these steps below to download the Software Update

1. Connect your phone using the USB cable provided with the Motorola phone
2. download the update from the link provided below.
MOTOROLA UPDATE FOR MOTOROLA V3i
3. this will notify you if it contain a update for your Motorola model.

This will successfully update the software of your Motorola phone.

You can get it repaired but i think it'll cost the same price you brought the phone bacuse thats what happened to my phone when i wrecked just the screen so you might aswell buy a new phone but thats only if its the same price so goodluck :) and please rate this solution...

When i select TOOLS from menu screen it goes bacl to the main screen. IS tools not installed?

you need to have the phone service seeing that the phone has came in contact with water, also you will need to have the LCD replaced on the phone.

you phone may need the flxcable replaced and have that done.

You have a couple of options:
Take it to a motorola repairer or try to update the firmware on your phone. As you cant get it to go past the Hellomoto screen a hard reset would not possible.

i'm so pissed i am in the exact same situation. i've only had my phone since late may, and haven't had too many problems with it. then last week it all began. i would set the phone down for a while, and whenever i would go to flip it open the screen would be either black or white. i then have to press a bunch of numbers or turn my phone off entirely to get it going again. yeah it's a piece of ****. ii've heard a lot of motorola phones have this problem. i'm going to take mine in and see if i can get a replacement. i also heard this just happens with a lot of flip phones, but i don't want to spend the $200 or so on a sidekick. blah. sorry i'm not much help, but i just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
