Question about Kyocera Mita FS 3800 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Kyocera 3820DN I just moved my printer.  Now when I turn it on it goes through the self test, but half way it says "check waste toner box" which goes away immediately because it is replaced by "paper Jam"

I guess I should say that at this point it does nothing else but beep at me. I've checked all the paper jam spots and taken the thing apart and put it back together, but nothing. I've also removed the toner box and shaken it around and reattached it, still nothing.

Thanks for your help Soulvisitor. I cleaned the neck of the waste toner box, and that solved that problem, however, I am still getting a paper jam message. What are your thoughts.

Thanks a ton, this is a big help.

I pulled the transport, but I do not see any paper in the back there.

    The display says
    Paper Jam
    Printer

Then when I push the question mark it says
    Open cassette 1 and
    pull out paper
    transfer unit,
    then remove
    the paper jam.
    Also, remove
    the paper jam
    from
    rear cover.
    Close paper
    transfer unit.

I'm going to now follow the steps from "remove toner. . ."

I can't figure out how to unplug the developer

  • Browes Dec 02, 2007

    figured it out

  • Browes Dec 02, 2007

ok, now I'm at the part where I'm supposed to unplug display and click off the sides, but nothing is budging.

Should I have also told you that This unit has the duplexer and an additional tray?

  • Browes Dec 02, 2007

Update for when you get back. I followed all your instructions and striped it bare, took out the fuser. I didn't find any paper, so I reassembled everything, and now, with the unit not on top of the duplexer and extra tray, I powered it up and still got a paper jam error.

thanks again for all this help.

I cleaned the two things that looked like eyes, and I'm not sure what switch you were referring. It still says there is a paper jam.

If the neck of the waste toner box has toner on it it will think it is full wipe inside of neck stem with tissue.

Turn off and on, does waste message disappear? If it does and you still have jam problem post back and I will help you solve it too

OK lets find that switch that is held down by paper or just stuck, my bet is there is paper concertinaed in fuser at rear, pull out paper cassette, then on right of machine is a lever that will release transport, this slide out 3/4 of the way but we want it out fully to do so press either sides of slides and pull the rest of way, look in there to the back can you now see the paper?

You can remove toner, then unplug developer plug inside where toner goes little plug, release lever that hold dev, pull it out, release transprt, remove waste toner bottle slide out drum to left.

Two screw on lid remove top unplug display, sides click off, now you can see all there is to see, there is a switch near fuser exit and entry, also one on transport.. have fun, ussally fuser gets a paper wrapped around it, fuser has two screws at rear hlding it in and 3 plugs running threw sides to left rear and can then be removed

Yes to the duplexer being attached, machine needs to be sepaterated from this, two latchs at rear duplex comes off, machine lifts straigt off extra draw, power it up with out these options

I should of noticed the DN option sorry my mistake, I'm off to work now will post later, thinking that toner has spilt into a photocell that switch uses to know when open or closed.

On the left side of transport you will see two silver bits on switch arms, these line up with "eyes" in where it slides in, clean these photocells there is two of them, there is also a switch middle front machine frame check it works.

It has to be one of the spaper path switchs/sensors stuck, or cover switch unable to be activated to enable reset. I think there is one cover on waste toner door and one cover on top cover, the rest are paper path switchs as laid out below, you will win in the end, very few

board faults I have seen I these, they are/were tough reliable beasts they had 3 years onsite parts and labour and I find it impossible to remember ever changing any boards due to malfunctions. I've written a heap off from the expense of them needing new drums and devs. yours machine wants fuser exit sensor cleared it must be stuck/dirty/broke/diconnected or cover switch side/top

The printer continues in Self Test, the printer is stuck at this point as it tries to continue to cycle through the power up.

Try to power on the printer without the toner kit and the waste toner box. If the printer stacks again at self test. Next step.... remove one part at time and check if the printer displays any message. First remove the developer unit and power on the machine (normal message "Missing Developer Unit"). Then pull out the fuser unit and power on the machine (normal message "Close Rear Cover"). And finally, remove the Drum Unit and power on the printer (normal message "Call Service 7410").
If the printer still stacks at Self Test, then that is not a good sign. Try to upgrade the printer' s firmware (system + engine). There is a possibility to go further from Self Test.
If it does not, then you have to replace the main pwb.

Self test says 'check waste toner box'

It looks your waste toner box is full. Waste toner box collects toner drawn during printing. You have to remove waste toner bottle and empty it.

Follow the instructions to clean up toner bottle

After looking on the net if your printer is under warranty, you should call Kyocera Service Rappresentative or an Authorised Service Centre as Kyocera is not releasing how to empty or clear the waste toner box and if you do you will woid the warranty.

Remove the developer and toner cartridge from the front of your unit. This will allow you to take out your drum where your waste toner box is. Once you have your drum with your waste toner box make sure to detach the waste toner box from the drum. Take a damp linen free cloth and wipe down the inside of the drum unit where your waste toner box goes in. Now take your waste toner box and make sure to secure the waste toner box really well to the drum. This has to be in very tight or else the printer will not think that there is a toner box attached the drum and this error will continue to appear. Important thing is to make sure that the toner box is attached really well to the drum unit.
