Please see this post and this article.
I would think you could find the original drivers at the hp site, here, but I don't see them. Did you change out the original drive? See here for Mitsumi support, and use this tutorial to update your windows drivers. If that doesn't work, I guess that registry patch is in order.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

I need to transfer files from an old computer using Windows 2000 pro to a new computer runing Vista. The problem is that I cannot get my old computer to do a backup to my cd or to an external device.

When you upgrade to Windows Vista, you can use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer files and settings from a Microsoft Windows-based computer to the Windows Vista-based computer. When you use Windows Easy Transfer, you can decide what to transfer to Windows Vista. You can also select the transfer method that you want to use. See Microsoft's article on the subject at

Cant start windows after RAM upgrade

Download or get a memory test utility that boots from some device (a floppy, flash drive or CD-ROM) that your PC can read. Run that test to confirm the installed memory is good/compatible. Loose memory modules and PC boards can be zapped just by touching the connector pins while you handle them. During removal or installation you have to frequently touch the machine's frame or wear an ESD strap before handling the module, to prevent this.

Slow action

Windows 2000 runs best on the s353. I have tried running Windows XP on it, but ran into driver issues (Toshiba never released XP drivers) and there's not enough memory (I also have 256MB).
I doubt it's even possible to install Vista on that computer.

If you're running Windows XP, you could just work with it, you could upgrade the memory, or you could back up all your data, reformat, and install 2000. Note that I do not recommend Windows ME, and that I've had issues running Windows 98 on mine.

If your computer is running an old version of windows but it's an old installation and you've not maintained it, you might just need to run a CCleaner scan, defragment your hard drive, and disable any software that's running in the background and doesn't need to be (but don't disable your antivirus :P)
