First, since you purchased the product in 4/11, you should contact the manufacturer for a replacement housing for the hard drive. If that's unsuccessful (or if you don't have that much time), you can purchase an external docking station. Then remove the hard drive from it's case and insert it into the docking station.

Hi there.

Since your hard drive is a SATA drive, there is no such thing as master and slave drive anymore.

All you need to do is plug it into your new computer (assuming there is an extra slot for a hard drive in there). You will need an extra plug from your power supply that will plug into the hard drive as well as a SATA cable that will plug your hard drive into the motherboard.

Another thing you can do is get an external hard drive enclosure and put it in that. Just make sure you get a SATA one, not an IDE one. I hope this helps.

Quite commonly on external drives the usb interface will go bad in the external drives the hard drive enclosed is probably functioning ok. Would try a different usb cord just to make sure the cord is not the issue. If still does not work you may need to purchase a new enclosure that will have a new usb interface circuit board with it. If taken in for service they will probably tell you to purchase a new external drive.
Here is a video on recovering data a side from an external drive. Some steps are not necessary if you have access to an ide/sata to usb adapter. These are pretty inexpensive on ebay as well as replacement enclosures.

This problem is caused alot by the hardware the hard drive is plugged into. Take out your harddrive and bring it to any computer retailer, and ask them if it is the hard drive or the hardware the harddrive is plugged into. This happend to me and I had to purchase a new case for it, but before that it stopped working and the harddrive got corrupted, so i purchased a new hard drive and hardware component for it, and they tranfered all the data from my harddrive to my New hard drive.

Hope this helps ^^. Please dont forget to rate, Thanks
