wont print saying low ink even tho just changed it made sure cartridges were in correctly and wont scan either will print in color but not black ink even tho new ink cartridge
1. The cartridges you bought were not original equipment ones (OEM)and many "clone" cartridges are known to have problems with the ink level chips
Take them back and get them replaced with a different brand
2. They are original cartridges but may still be faulty (rare but possible)
Take them back and get them replaced
3. Your print head is clogged or faulty
Run your printer through the head cleaning process a few times and see if it clears up.
4 your cartridges are out of alignment
run the cartridge alignment process
If you are filling them yourself then...
Cartridge ink levels are usually monitored by a small chip on the cartridge. If that cartridge is allowed to fall below 25% ink level most chips then become locked and not able to re-set.
For many cartridges you can buy a reset device to reset chips that have not become locked. Or you could buy empty cartridges that don't need resetting and that will always accept a self refill.
As for scanning if by that you mean the photocopy function then that could be linked to any of the above. But should you mean it wont scan to the computer then you should look at any hardware or driver issues that you may have and maybe also the source selection (usually TWAIN) is a good source selection.

I have encountered a problem with my new (3 month old) canon printer (2 cartridges: 1 black, 1 white).
I have had my cartridges refilled at a location that specializes in such practices, and it worked for a week (I pritnted less than 10 pages, draft)... however a couple of days ago it started prompting me with the following message each time I initiate a printing routine: ''The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized: Color'' (good ol' eroor E,1,5 on the display).
I took out and repositioned both cardridges (both at one time, in parallel, aso.), with or without reset, I reinstalled the drivers... and everythhing with no success.
I understand that this might mean buying a new genuine Canon color cartridge, but firstly I would like to ask you if any of you guys managed to get the printer working oinly on the black cartridge, because I really do not need the color one, but only the black cartridge. I have tried modifying the ink cartridge settrings form printer preferences in ctrl panel with no luck, the same error message arises. Does it really not work unless both cartridges are functional?!
thanks,
mike
