10 yr old mower, has not been started for 3 or 4 yrs, won't start

Mower in excellant shape, bought from older lady, tried unsuccessfully to start, new gas & plug. It starts if I pour gas in the spark plug hole but won't stay running more than a few seconds. Did this 3 or 4 times but still won't stay running.
Any thoughts?

I have a 2006 Cub Cadet Push mower with a 5.5 160cc Honda Engine. I have never had any problems till last week. The engine started racing while mowing. I stoped the engine and checked the oil and air...

Replace engine, only 1 yr. warrenty. Engine about $119 at Harbor Freight. Easy to change out. all Harbor Freight engines are Hondas. Bolt pattern same. 160cc or 190cc will work. Remove blade, remove mounting screws, replace engine. Carb may be the same for throttle connections. Reinstall blade. 10 pulls required to start engine 1st time. 1 pull after that. Pull 1/2 way 4 times 1st to prime even if you use the primer bulb. Ensure oil is full, 30w oil. Excellent engines good for 7-8 yrs with proper maintenance. Observe cable connections before old engine removal. Take pics.

My Toro mower is 7 yrs old. 3 speeds, blade

I've noticed that when the blade get dull it work harder a cutting tall grass. I just put a new blade on mine and now it runs and sounds like a brand new mower. also if the inside of the deck is coated with old grass that makes a differance too

Toro Electric Start Mower Barely Turns Over

this is easy to point out the problem. if it is still under warranty get warranty replacement of the starter is not you might be better off just buying a new mower might be easier and cheaper because if your not still under warranty with it it will cost you quite a bit of money if you can't replace it yourself it will cost you the amount of the new starter and it will cost you the amount that the shop's labor fee which can vary a lot depending on where you take it.
